Here is a typical line from the .txt file in LO, but the Command-Option-X no
longer shows the non-printing invisible character.

Hmm, the U+0029 would be for RIGHT PARENTHESIS, -- so what you show would have
come from (2)\n

What is the actual text on the line?

The other way to tease the hidden/non-printing character out would be a command
line "od -bc" octal dump or "hexdump -c" for the source file, or the
content.xml file in the .ODF zip archive.

Open in Writer and position to the end of the line and enter Alt+X
(Command+Option+X on OS X) to toggle the Unicode notation.

What Unicode value, e.g. U+000C, is toggled present for the non-printing
character?
