The missing of the possibility to assign a style to content is true at many
places in LibO. Direct formatting will be offered everywhere, styles
alternative aren't offered--neither additionally to DF at the same place nor
instead of DF. To enforce or enable users to use styles instead of DF without
changing the workflow, styles should be offered too.

This is also true in the Bullets and Numbering dialog. I support the idea of
enhancing this dialog so that a user can also use list styles, but I would go a
step further and suggest to exchange DF bullets and numbering with bullet
styles and numbering styles completely.

Is there a negative impact for users/workflows after doing that? This would
"connect" the DF list world with the list styles world without creating new
dialogs or workflows and without cluttering existing dialogs.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101923] Option to set or unset list styles in the bullet & numbering dialog

> Yousuf: Does Heikos use case describes what you want?

Regina: Not it doesnt. What i'm suggesting is to easily see and apply a list
style to a list which is created with direct formatting.

Scenario: I've created a bullet list using the direct formatting bullet button
in the formatting toolbar and want to change the list to use one of the already
available list styles.

Currently a user has the option of applying a list style from the styles and
formatting sidebar, but no means of doing so from the bullet & numbering
dialog, which this enhancement request intends to fix.

Cut the list from after the paragraph sign of the previous paragraph to the end
of the list. Insert it as "unformatted text". That will turn the numbering
fields into simple characters.

Yousuf: Does Heikos use case describes what you want?

Sometimes I face the problem that numbers in lists hinders my workflow but are
still relevant. For instance, I want to resort the list but keep the item
labeled.

2) Second item
3) Third item
1) First item

What I usually do is to copy/paste everything to an external text editor in
order to loose automatic numbering. Unset the list style could make this
workflow comfortable.

Was going by the tab headings in the dialog. :D

Didnt quite follow the issue of parent paragraph style you mentioned. Unset is
intended to do the opposite of setting the list style in the sidebar.

So thanks to looking at the 'Outline & Numbering' tab of the paragraph dialog,
the intent of this enhancement is simply to have the 'Numbering Style' combobox
and 'Edit Style' button be added to the bullets & numbering dialog.

We could introduce a standard/default (aka anonymous) style that would be
applied when the style cleared. Alternatively we could also ignore the unset
feature - users need to manually change properties in this case.

"Outline" is ambiguous. I guess you do not mean chapter numbering, but the
presets for list numbering.

> "unset the list style" is removing the style association of a list entry,

Imagine a paragraph has got "Numbering 2" by double click on that item in the
Style dialog. And the parent paragraph style has "Numbering 1" set
in its style definition in Tab "Outline & Numbering". Then "unset" can have two
meanings:
(1) Remove the "Numbering 2" from the paragraph, so that it gets the inherited
numbering
(2) Set "None" numbering, so that it does not inherit the numbering and shows
no number at all.

How will you handle the anonymous list and numbering? Those are not included as
style.

I can imagine one or more items to be in the list of the list style tab or
additional buttons, which clear informations regarding numbering from the
current paragraph; something similar to the "Default Style" of the character
styles. But I doubt, that the Options tab of a style is the right place.

A "list entry" is the an entry in a bullet, numbering or outline list. "unset
the list style" is removing the style association of a list entry, which
presently you have no option to do in the list style tab of the styles and
formatting deck.

Can you please give more details about what you want. It is not clear to me.
The description has "unset the list style of list entries". What is "list
entry"? Do you mean ? What is "unset the list style"? You can
change a paragraph from being a list-item to be outside the list. Do you mean
that? But that has nothing to do with the list-style itself and makes no sense
for the Options Tab. And in the dialog in the context of a single paragraph,
there is already the "Remove" button. Which dialog do you mean?
