I do not get your freaky result with 2-sided printing + collation. Using HP
Laserjet 700 MFP M775 here.

Did you try "Create single print jobs for collated output" in the Options tab
of LibreOffice printing dialog? It was unchecked for me, but maybe checking it
will help you.
