In the first attached file, I created a 'book' with two chapters, both are open. I close the file, reopen it, only one chapter is open. As I noted originally, when I am working on a book with 20 chapters, with multiple sections, and occasionally sub-sections, and I close the file, when I reopen most/all of the chapters are closed.
