Hi There,

Thanks for responding. With that I'm closing this bug report as WFM and we'll
need clean (and separate) bugs for each new issue you're seeing. Thanks for
understanding, this is all to keep our bug tracker clean and useful and to
avoid clutter

At your request, I had another look at this issue. The behavior has changed,
but there's still some difficulty getting this printed as I would like.

I'm on Xubuntu 14.04.4 LTS, running a freshly-downloaded
LibreOffice_5.1.0.3_Linux_x86-64_deb

What happens now is
a) file -> print -> properties has an Orientation button that is set
"Landscape" but is inactive and greyed-out. At least it's not pretending to
let me change it here, so that's good as far as it goes.

b) File -> Printer Settings (the dialog title is slightly different: "Printer
Setup") -> properties is much like (a) above. Acceptable.

c) Format -> page -> page has radio buttons for Portrait and Landscape that it
DOES allow me to change, but it does NOT affect how the page is printed. THIS
IS BAD.

d) I could not find a way to modify this document to print in portrait
orientation. Even if I used (c) above and saved the document with "page"
orientation, the saved document insists on printing landscape. THIS IS BAD.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of
LibreOffice
   (5.0.5 or 5.1.0) https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of
LibreOffice and
your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave
a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating
System

Please DO NOT

   Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
   appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice
(usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was
present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo"; 4b. If the bug was not
present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

Hi Kevin -

I highly encourage you to join the design/UX team mailing list to discuss
changes. That team has grown considerably in the past months and would likely
be more than welcoming to hear your input about how to make the UI more
intuitive.

The situation remains much the same in LibreOffice 4.3.5.2 freshly downloaded
for Windows. When I have a document open and click print, I expect to be able
to control all aspects of the printing. I can, but it's obscure.

In the Print dialog, I would expect either the Page Layout tab, or at the
worst the Options tab to allow me to change the orientation. The presence of
a Properties button on the General tab escaped my notice, perhaps because
my intent was quite specific, not general, and related to the page and what I
could think of as its layout (although I know you mean something else specific
by layout there.)

In fact, I was really expecting to control orientation right on the General tab
itself, in connection with the preview that appears there and shows the
orientation and dimensions. It seems intuitive to me that if these details are
shown there, they should be controlled there.

--- Comment #5 from Joel Madero jmadero@gmail.com ---
I can confirm the issue, what I think is that it's an issue of the page being
set to Landscape orientation (Format - Page) but, printer settings should
override this if you want a one time print as something else, not sure if these
settings should be saved as then you'd have conflicting defaults (page
orientation set as landscape but then printed portrait).

I'll mark as NEW and mark as a minor bug -- honestly could be an enhancement
request, not sure if this is working as intended. One thing is for sure, if the
default in format - page is what is kept, then there shouldn't even be the
option in the printer properties.

Minor: Doesn't prevent high quality work, just have to use a different setting
to get the desired result (Format - Page - Page Orientation)

Medium: Enough people might see this and get confused as to what the printer
settings are actually doing if they don't somehow change the default behavior
set in format - page.

I'm on Ubuntu 11.10 (Natty) in a xfce login.
Current version of LibreOfficeCalc is 3.3.4.
I'm printing the first tab, all.
In File - Printer Setup - Properties, I select Portrait and Long-Edge binding
duplex.
In File - Print - Options, I select print to file (saving paper).

The resulting file is printed in landscape.

Other OS: Windows 7, LibreOffice 3.5.3.2
There's a more elaborate driver for my printer on Windows, but in File -
Printer Setup - Finishing, I select portrait, along with duplex options.
In File - Print, I ask for pages 1-2 (I have no way to view the PCL output if
I send it to a file).
It prints in landscape orientation, not duplexed.

Additional note: On Ubuntu, if I just click on the file in the file manager,
it opens it in Gnumeric. Gnumeric prints it duplexed in portrait-mode with no
problems.
