Right, fair enough, I get it now.
So this is definitely a different bug.

Cheers for the quick reply, Kevin!

I was think about maths. A common use case is powers and subscripts for the
units which would be solved by bug 39052 but you often need funkier units and
things in the title (often when linearizing an equation and you get weird
things).

I would say this is also a work around but it would be nice to have the full
power of a formula.

I can confirm this in 4.0.2

Kevin, do you mean extended math equation functionality to have a LaTEX-type
level of complexity, or simply usual text formatting capabilities like italic,
subscript and superscript?

If this is only about the second option, this bug is a duplicate of bug 39052.

In 4.0.2 (not sure about previous versions), it is possible to insert special
characters - like mathematical operators and greek alphabet letters - by using
"Insert -> Special characters" when editing the text box.

Yes, this is definitely related to bug 39052. I say this because you can use
cells for labeling data series which prevent those from having rich text. And
I can only assume that that transfers to the other titles in the charts.

It would be nice, although there are problems like bug 39052. Maybe if this is
possible it would be a possible workaround to 39052...
