I made a test in 4.1.3.2 and observed still the same behavior. 

Thanks for the work around with many more # in front; this works.

I understand the format code # ##0 should also create a thousand seperator
for all more than 6 digits. Thus I regard it as a bug.

Please let me know if my understanding is wrong. I will then chance to
enhancement request.

The space in this case is as any other character, it is not a thousand
separator.

Thanks for that hint. I always check Thousand separator and replace the comma
by space. 

It might be a good idea to enable overwriting of thousand separators from
country/language setting. My 30 years of experience in international
environments taught me that a space as a thousand separator and a point as a
decimal point is the best understood. If needed I file an enhancement request.

I my opinion not a bug.
And possible format like e.g. ### ### ### ##0,00

I you want this implemented, please redo the title and change the importance
from normal to enhancement.

I think you can not set up a default separator.
