 Hooray! Thanks for testing again.
I'll mark as RESOLVED INVALID as this was some weird glitch.

Yeah, really weird.

Can you find it under Windows? I installed LibreOffice 4.4.1.1 over 4.3.5.2.
Please try reproducing this issue in the same context.

Yes, same as my comment 1.

Win 7 Pro 64-bit, LibO Version: 4.4.1.2

I mean that I couldn't find the OpenSymbol font in the Special Characters
window when I looked for it.

How I navigated to the Special Characters window: Styles and formatting pane
  - Right click bullet list and press Modify - Options tab - Character -
  Font

Aha, ok I misunderstood you the first time a bit, but I still can't
reproduce, as I can find OpenSymbol in the Special chars window.

 More clear steps for others:
 Styles formatting.
 List styles.
 Right-click - New.
 Bullets - select some bullet.
 Options - Character: ...
Try to find the font OpenSymbol.

Well, I tried something different this time. I uninstalled LibreOffice,
restarted Windows and reinstalled LibreOffice and SOLVED. Now the bullets are
displayed correctly and the OpenSymbol font is present.

Cannot reproduce with 4.4.1, using a new style with OpenSymbol.
What do you mean by lack of OpenSymbol font?
