Entering a relative address the condition point to the relative position where you are where you are going to edit the condition. To avoid mistakes using relative references is better go to the first cell where conditional range begin. Can you edit the rule? Can you delete the rule? And after you do so, can you SAVE (OK) the changes you made? I tried, again, and it didn't seem to matter what cell or range I selected before opening the Manage Conditional Formatting dialog or what cell or range I specified at the bottom of the existing rule. I also have: Version: 4.4.3.2 Build ID: 40m0(Build:2) Locale: en_US for Linux Mint 17.2 (Cinnamon), running in a VirtualBox 5.0 virtual machine on Windows 7. I opened the file in Calc 4.4.3.2. for Linux and was also unable to save any changes to conditional formatting rules made in Manage Conditional Formatting. In fact, no window control buttons or command buttons whatsoever appeared in Manage Conditional Formatting's main windows-- no close-window button, and no Edit, Remove/Delete, OK, or Cancel buttons.
