No repro with

Version: 5.2.0.4
Build ID: 066b007f5ebcc236395c7d282ba488bca6720265
CPU Threads: 2; OS Version: Mac OS X 10.11.6; UI Render: default; 
Locale: en-GB (fr.UTF-8)

1) Open new Impress document
2) Insert > Image from Desktop folder (png file)
3) No hang/crash, PNG file inserted into slide.

Same bug here.
LO 5.0.1.2 on Mac OSX 10.10.5

Just TRYING to add a file freeze my LO instance when the "select file" window
appears.
I don't have to choose or select anything.
And I need to force quit it.

If I copy/paste an image it works fine.

Never had this problem on impress.

To be more precise : 

Menu > Add Image = works fine IF i'm on a random folder.
As soon as I select "Desktop" folder it freeze.

FWIW, I can not reproduce with LO 5004 on OSX 10.10.4. Tried :
- drag and drop
- insert  image
- insert  media  clipart gallery, dragged clipart onto impress slide

No crash, no hang

@Ray : also please provide exact details on how you inserted the image, there
are currently mumtiple ways to do this :

- drag and drop from a folder into Impress ;
- Insert - Image
- Insert - Media -...multiple possibilities

Can you please describe some more details:
Does it happen with any image format (.jpg, .png, ...)? 
Did you use Insert - Image or another approach (like drag and drop)? 
What OS X version do you have? 
Was the LibreOffice 5 installation an update or clean install?
