The page number was never a problem.

I will explain again:

I cannot reproduce it after a system reboot.

The problem came up after working on a very large file. LibreOffice gives me
issues with very large files and there are memory leak. LibreOffice apparently
does not close and restart properly it seems. The problem plagued me throughout
the day. It was only when I rebooted the next day to try the file in Windows
that I rebooted my computer.

I re-checked the file when I was asked to upload a sample file.

The problem disappeared.

To reproduce the exact conditions I would have to do intense editing all day
long to trigger the memory problems.

In summation. The file I uploaded is an example of a multi=page file with many
endnotes. It is *not* an example of the issue.

There is not problem with any file.

The problem was with LibreOffice.

*

Page number left/right align was never an issue.

Page *margins* were the issue.

The endnotes section margins were wrong.

The inner and outer margins were reversed on display, print, and PDF output.

*

The problem, like other bugs, is related to memory leaks in LibreOffice.

I would imagine there is some problem with formatting of sections when
LibreOffice is handling large files.

I did not need anyone to fix the file I uploaded. There was *nothing* wrong
with the file. I used it as an example of what endnotes spanning multiple pages
look like and what inner/outer page margins are. My problems went away with a
system reboot, I later discovered. The problem persisted throughout Friday no
matter how many times I closed and re-opened LibreOffice. I rebooted my
computer Saturday morning. The problem vanished.

I have given up trying to explain this and will just deal with LibreOffice
acting up by rebooting my entire computer because LibreOffice does not cleanly
close and restart. If you no one else can reproduce the error or deal with this
and other issues in high memory-use scenarios, then so be it. I must admit I
became upset when writing my last message because LibreOffice's memory problems
have, if anything, worsened over the past 4 years and have caused many a crash
and graphical glitch and corruption of embedded images.

I don't think the issue is easily diagnosed or fixed (i.e. page margins being
corrupted when file is large and memory usage grows too high). I set "WONTFIX"
since I am not holding out any hope here and there is no "CANNOT FIX within
reasonable period" option. Maybe it should be insufficient data. I don't know.

Created attachment 122024
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=122024=edit
position page number fixed for the Endnote pages

Please, be less verbose. Your comments are too confused to be easily treated by
QA team. Please, only facts.

Based on your attachment, you need to align the page number left for left pages
(even numbers) and right for the right pages (odd numbers).

Best regards. JBF

It is not possible to decide WontFix for a never confirmed bug.
If you can't describe the problem in a reproducible way nor be able to
reproduce after a reboot, the right status is invalid.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 97173] Page margins (mirrored) reversed in Endnotes (Linux not Windows)

2016-01-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #4 from Jonathan Joseph Chiarella ---
1. Write a thesis.
2. Put endnotes in the thesis
3. Set page margins in the endnotes by clicking anywhere in the endnotes and
selecting format->page: Mirrored. Outer and inner margins set to asymmetric
values (e.g. inner 2cm, outer 3 cm)
4. Observe.

To reiterate. After a reboot the phenomenon has not resurfaced. The problem
never happened with smaller files; only this big one. But that is part of why
this rarely comes up. You aren't making 11 MB files unless you're writing a
dissertation.

But if LibreOffice is to be taken seriously, Calc performance needs to rival
Excel and Writer needs to be as bug-free as the gold standard, Word. ODF is
great great great. But I have noticed LibreOffice failing me on very large
files, which are exactly the use cases that push one to alternatives. The ones
who have to use Photoshop instead of GIMP are the professionals. Accountants
have to use Excel. Academics often use Office for their reasons. Though they
are limited to docx and everyone has to have the same version of office and
windows licenses, when all is set up, is just works. Something is going screwy
with high memory situations. I have also had Impress spontaneously have nearly
every single picture file get corrupted (not just "now loading"), making me
re-import the images or load an older version of the file. Something is going
awry in high RAM usage environments. I have been using 4 GB over the years and
have used both 32 and 64 bit builds.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. I don't know how to write/read code and this
bug is probably buried deep in the workings of the toolkit, or Python, or Java.

Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for reporting the bug. Please attach a sample document, as this makes
it easier for us to verify the bug, and please provide a clearer set of
step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the problem. Like:

1. Do this
2. Do that

Also it would be much appreciate it if you could add screen-shot for the
problem.

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' once the requested info is provided.
(Please note that the attachment will be public, remove any sensitive
information before attaching it.
See

--- Comment #2 from Jonathan Joseph Chiarella ---
Odd news to report.

I know this WAS the behaviour. I made a pdf with the margins in the endnotes
set to be the opposite. The original file, now when I open it, is behaving
properly. The .odt, now when I open it, has margins in the endnotes (under page
settings) behave exactly as it should.

It happened all day yesterday though. I opened and closed the program. Opened
and reopened the file...same results.

Perhaps shutting down and rebooting my workstation made a difference.

The only explanation I can fathom is that LibreOffice had some sort of crash or
error that got stuck in system memory and was being fetched again. I cannot
explain it. I didn't save any screenshots when it was bothering me since I
needed to print out my thesis. I changed the margins to "the wrong way" so that
they displayed and saved to pdf correctly. I took out my thumb drive and went
to the print shop immediately thereafter.

Today I tested out the same odt on Windows today and found that the margins on
the odt displayed as expected. The pages with endnotes had wide margins on the
inside because the page format was set to wide margins. I set the page to wide
margins yesterday.

When I change the margins in the endnotes to have wider margins on the outside,
it works as expected--wider margins on the outside. Libreoffice obeys me.

Again, I have no idea why this is the case.

I would offer my pdf as proof, but the pdf has no information on the structure
of the original odt file.

The original odt I used is /huge/. It is a thesis. It took a lot of ram. I am
not uploading it here (would not prove anything anyway), but I made a test file
to show what I mean by margins in the endnotes. The file should have wider
margins in all sections in the inner portion for book binding.

Like I said, it is working now. I have had stability issues, memory leaks and
crashed with pretty much every single version of libreoffice on windows and
linux. I think the error is tied to having a massive file with hundreds of
endnotes, graphics, etc. For obvious reasons I am not going to upload a 11 MB
file with all of my research here.
