... or even better: have a confused -- talk to us here button in the top
right corner of all BSA pages which opens a webchat to #libreoffice-qa -- this
might also help community growth and is the same we did for developers with

I wonder if they come predominently from the Help-Send Feedback menu
item. AFAIR we had a plan to put a wrapper screen around that instead -
that is more mozilla-like.

I guess we should track resourcing that :-)

Just a thought,

Michael.

[Libreoffice-qa] Reported issues show the tendency to be more user questions ? BSA related ?

2013-07-01 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi all,

Last weeks/months I am responding to more and more issues that IMNSHO
should be handled as user questions *first*.

Did I ever say that IMO reporting bugs is to easy? Yes I did. More then
once.

Is this just me??
Is the process from our French friends - where reports from BSA go
trough an email process before being added to BugZilla (that's what I
understood from it anyway) - a way to prevent that?

Cheers,
Cor

Hi Cor,

Is the process from our French friends - where reports from BSA go
trough an email process before being added to BugZilla (that's what I
understood from it anyway) - a way to prevent that?

Better we get all the reports we need than not so much reports and a
more buggy LO.
I could only write about the Base-bugs. User-questions in this part of
LO could be answered in a short time (about 2 or 3 days), because there
are only 240 bugs open and we have a look at the bug-list nearly every
day if there is reported something new.

Regards

Robert

As this is still an experimentation, we can't deduct anything right now,
it's a to fresh process. But thanks for pointing it any way, this is
what the experimentation is done for :) Lets take some more time to see
if it's a real help on the BZ side and the community side.

Kind regards

Yes, I thinkk you have a point there. E.g. as much as I think OpenID login to
bugzilla would increase the reports, I also indeed feel that would reduce
quality (and push the work inwards -- towards our rare and valued QA triage
volunteers instead of outwards to the users and thereby growing skillbase and
community).

Indeed, well understood.

I dont think so -- esp. it would not reduce the workload of those involved.

I think so. For the French it is also to help people not so good with
English, I thought. But that is a specific goal then. Not a general
solution or relief.
What I do see, is that on the Dutch list people that are afraid from
BugZilla, post to a list so that people can discuss and someone file a
bug, if needed. Looks a bit as the French process.

What one might entertain is the idea to add a you seem to be filing a support
request, have you considered to use ask.libreoffice.org, which is likely the
better place and will result in a quicker answer?.

Hmm ;) nice direction to think about. Wording and timing (place) of such
a hint my be crucial.

Cor

I agree. But even better to get less 'reports' that basically are coming
from users that miss some knowledge on certain features or so. Maybe
that is less the case with Base.

Ah, that sounds good. Thus one part of BugZilla at least that doesn't
cause us headaches ;)
