Use cases:

1) A user opens the native dialog and wants to connect to a CMIS as he/she was
informed that it was possible but doesnt know how to do it.

2) A user opens the LO dialog and prefers to have access to various native OS
dialog features (e.g. deleting a file).

Being able to switch from one to another is a long process when it can be quite
easy. By default on windows, i keep it on the OS dialog, but sometimes i want
to connect to Google Drive which is only accessible through LO's native dialog,
so i need to switch to that, but of course i want to switch back after that.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 58434] Display gray background for non-breaking characters only when displaying non-printing characters

I also agree with Jay that using the field shading colour for formatting marks
is a bug. Hence I have changed importance to 'medium normal'.

But what is the correct function? I think this has not been properly defined
yet. And so this is the enhancement part of this bug report.

I also see the necessity to visualize this kind of characters. To display them
with a shading, if the nonprinting characters are displayed, may be a solution.
But in this case two things have to be taken into account:
(1) The term 'nonprinting character' is no longer correct, because some of the
formatting marks are printable. It may be better to have an additional item in
the View menu in order to display formatting marks.
(2) It may be possible that background colours are used and these colours may
be equal or similar to the shading colour. For this case an algorithm should be
implemented in order to ensure, that there is a sufficient contrast between
shading and background colour.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 88180] New: Feature Request: File Picker Improvements

2015-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88180

Bug ID: 88180
Summary: Feature Request: File Picker Improvements
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: ux-advise
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: drich...@largo.com
CC: libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org

Created attachment 111930
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=111930action=edit
First rough mockup

I am approaching this issue from two views. The first is that we have 800 users
and I have monitored the support calls and am aware of the problems users are
having with the picker. I also would like to see better CMIS support
implemented to allow for searches. In our case, CMIS is Alfresco. Currently
users would have to log into the web interface of Alfresco to find a document,
and then use LibreOffice to locate that document within the virtual file
structure.

I have created a mockup with what I perceive to be the shortcomings/problems,
along with my feature requests. Very likely this will have to be split into
multiple requests, but I am initiating contact with the UX professionals. I'm
sure someone can make a nicer mockup.

** The top area is the path and it's not marked as such, and users don't
understand the difference between path and file name.

** Advanced users would love to be able to type in the full path and also file
name into the top area -- right now you have to type in the path first and then
click into the file area and type in the file name.

** A search box is a feature request, and based on backend would have different
functionality. Possibly that would be:

-- CMIS: search the backend datastore for matching keywords, tags and
contents that match the search criteria.

--- Linux: possibly tracker would be queried

--- All platforms on local file system, possibly a simple search of file
names *search_criteria.* to reduce the displayed files.

** The left area should be changed to Favorites and allow for more options
instead of just allowing folder shortcuts.

** The left area should allow you to store individual files, when people find a
document, they would like to just open them immediately.

** The left area should allow you to store saved searches for later use.

** The CMIS backends should have a unique icon to make them stand out more.

** Users confuse a single and double-click and are often double-clicking on the
Alfresco shortcut which brings up the editing screen. Treat single and
double-click the same and add an [ Edit ] button to make changes to the
underlying backend.

** It would be nice to have the artwork here match the monochrome theme, to
give it a consistent look and feel.

Yes the button label needs to be clearer like 'Reset File Settings' or
something like that. The extended help had the toolip as

'resets the editing time to zero, the creation date to the current date and
time, and the version number to 1. the modification and printing dates are also
deleted'

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 87675] Edit button near drop-down lists in paragraph style properties for selection of next style linked Style

2015-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #8 from Caolán McNamara caol...@redhat.com ---
I think if the next style is the same as the current style then you should
disable the button. Otherwise you can modify the style in the dialog, e.g.
indent, use edit style to edit the same style again in another dialog and
modify it inconsistently with the still open parent dialog.

TESTING with LO 4.4.0.1 + Ubuntu 14.04

(In reply to Roni Mogilevsky from comment #0)
 Created attachment 111928 [details]
 Screenshot of the General tab

 Steps to reproduce:
 1. Enter FilePropertiesGeneral
 2. Observe the General tab for 2 buttons called Reset

CONFIRMED -- There are two buttons, albeit one that appears to pertain to a
single tab context, and one which appears to pertain to the entire dialog (??)

It's definitely confusing.
Status - NEW

Handing to the UX Team.

[Libreoffice-ux-advise] [Bug 88157] New: HIG: Bold headings in dialogs are frequently misused

2015-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 88157
Summary: HIG: Bold headings in dialogs are frequently misused
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: ASSIGNED
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI

  Reporter: f...@libreoffice.org
CC: libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org

Bold labels are being used in some dialogs to mark a single UI control, which
is incorrect. These are meant to separate groups of controls only. This misuse
leads to wasted space and confusing hierarchy.
