Thomas, do you want that new drop-down widget will show always?
Now, if you are in cell edit mode then formula bar shows us another buttons (X
and V) and it was always in LO.
I can't repro your steps...

The positon changed because of security reasons - you have to store private
data . We have a per session memory taking the initial value from options. That
could be moved into expert options and overwritten per session.

Should it still be reserved for those who need to submit fix for easyhacks

OP is specifically asking that it is remembered PER DOCUMENT. If I understand
OP correct, LibreOffice already silently remembers the last used path at an
application level.

When LO starts, it can still honour this initial setting. There is no reason to
change the application-level default to resolve this per-document bug. Any
document meta-data setting would simply override the application default.

Created attachment 151702

Screenshot showing the issue

When you create a style with indentation, like the quotation, it also applies
the fill color only for the actual paragraph. Lists add margins so I'd say it's
the expected behavior.

Related issues are bug 94562, bug 83532, and bug 114287 ("paragraph style
overrule list style settings" contradicts my upper statement).

Hm, good point. So the change would be to remove Tools > Options > Path (resp.
have it hidden under the expert options) and silently remember the last used
path. Could imagine that admins are not too happy with this change. Your
opinion, Justin?

i agree with comment #6; i think currently we don't store any paths as settings
in documents.

I confirm the described behaviour.

More simple steps to reproduce

1. Open document
2. Change paragraph style: Area => Color
3. Apply list to that paragraph

I don't think, that this is a bug, but let's ask design team
