I think we do not need another bug. The problems are already covered by bug
90244, bug 90320, bug 89130, and bug 56498 and their duplicates.
And look at bug 99648 "[META] Improve Layer Handling", whether your ideas not
already reported.

Which applications do you have in mind? Remember, that layers in Draw do not
determine the stacking order.

Renaming the label "Layout" to something different is a task of the translation
teams. Only the English string is in source (sd/inc/strings.hrc).
But keep in mind, that you need very good reasons to rename something that has
its name already for twenty years.

> 2. remove Controls and Dimension Line cause you can add new layers (like in
> calc) but you can't delete the predefined one (Controls and Dimension Line
> can't be deleted)

I have already looked, whether it is possible to get rid of these two layers.
But there are so many internal consequences to the code that I've refrained
from trying.

You can use click+Shift (hide/show), click+Ctrl (lock/unlock) and
click+Shift+Ctrl (printable/not printable).

Actually, before this goes ANY further--please take the time to read the Draw
Guide (it has not been updated since the 4.3 release but is still applicable).

https://documentation.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/Documentation/en/DG4.3/DG43-DrawGuide.pdf

And specifically Chpt. 11 Advanced Draw Techniques which covers use of the
'Layers bar' and its three 'default' layers.

Suffice to say, Layers in LibreOffice function a lot different than other
Vector/Raster editing programs in common use--and that the Layer bar is not
Z-order sensitive nor are its layers 'groupable'.

There have been a lot of improvement requests about the Drawing UI, but the
underlaying framework and ODF dictate a lot about what is appropriate.

Point is there is no sense banging away at the Layer bar without understanding
how LibreOffice Draw handles layers. Please read the documentation.

In general it's not very common to have layers arranged that way ordinary you
have layers arranged in a list grouped by folders and you can show/hide them
with an symbol or lock them by an symbol.

So my proposal for the layer tabbed bar on bottom of draw is:

1. rename at least Layout to Layer1, so that it's easier to understood that we
talk about layers (in calc you also call them Sheet1).

2. remove Controls and Dimension Line cause you can add new layers (like in
calc) but you can't delete the predefined one (Controls and Dimension Line
can't be deleted)

3. move settings for Visible, Printable and Locked to the right click so if you
would like to use them you don't need an dialog to hide or lock the layer.

yes I mean the tab bar which I wrote layer line.

In general I think it would be a good idea to use the tab bar (layer line) but
it's not that simple and intuitive to use.

I'll close this bug and write a new one for make the layer line more usable
(BUG 133809).

this very faint line is no big showstopper but it's there and shouldn't be
there cause the line has any usage.

One horizontal separator line come from the sidebar (cause the sidebar has an
frame line around it) and the second one come from the status bar cause the
statusbar has an separator line on top.

Even dress it up a bit and call it a new MUFFIN mode.

Personally I'd never thought to use Writer in 'Web' view as I didn't get the
use case--typically I'd save-as and open and work in Writer/Web as HTML.

But playing with this a bit it is kind of handy for non-WYSIWYG layout--but
accepting Paragraph, Frame, Section, Draw objects--just on a different canvas.
More like OneNote or Evernote.

In fact, web view is implemented as 10-meter long pages. Thus it will show Page
2 after that limit, and so on.

I would simply drop the page indicator from that view, and be done with that.

@Michael S. but this is not Writer/Web, this is for Writer! And, no claim it
is a bug, rather an enhancement for Writer in its 'Web' view mode.

So, => WF

But, could the paragraph structure be parsed in this concise 'Web' view mode to
respond to the pagination received as would apply fully rendered in Writer's
'Normal' mode? If need be call it something else 'Notetaking' mode.

> Stuart is right. The concept of pagination does not apply to web view.

Actually read the use case again closely. The OP wants to use Writer in Web
view for concise note taking--not for generating HTML. Truth is that with
Writer in its Web view--the canvas is striped of its 'page' motif, but document
paragraphs continue to respond to their applied styles.

As the 'Web' viewing mode really is just another VCL rendering mode--akin to
the Print preview-- it has the "potential" to reflect the pagination as
assigned to Paragraphs in normal view, as modified by Page style and any manual
Page breaks.

Not sure how much of an effort it would be--and one could make the case for
calling this mode something other than/in addition to 'Web' view.

I wonder if we can deal with the issue at all.

MikeK on IRC requests additional information: Which OS specifically
(7/8/8.1/10)? which render (default/GL/Skia)? which screen scaling
(100/125/150...)?

Let's have one request per ticket only (and keep LOOL separate).

There is a faint line around the sidebar that might be removed when docked
(actually it's not much difference in floating state). But it looks not too bad
with my theme.

And you talk about two horizontal separator lines at the bottom, which I cannot
confirm.

I guess drawing a line after the last docked toolbar is a bit tricky. But it
would likely be appealing.

(In reply to andreas_k from comment #0)
> 1. Why is t the statusbar an horizontal separator but on the toolbar not?

Should have been fixed with bug 121050

(In reply to andreas_k from comment #2)
> At the notebookbar layout there is an horizontal separator..

Reported in bug 124667, WFM in bug 125608

Andreas: Is Regina right with "layer line" being actually the tab bar? Or do
you have something else in mind, eg. a new Layer that holds lines, hidden by
default. Makes not much sense either.

Whether scrollbars are shown should be up to the OS/DE. In case of LOOL it's
the browser that make them disappear. So my take is to remove the option from
Writer too. But for sake of consistency I agree with adding it to other modules
(except Calc of course).

Consistency over labels is rather contra-productive as you have to read more
carefully.

In this particular case not so important, both "Use Enter key to paste and
clear clipboard" and "Press Enter to paste and clear clipboard" are easy to
understand ("Press Enter" seems to be better English).

(In reply to Martin van Zijl from comment #28)
> Also, do you know what other UX features depend on Paste Mode? Is there any

Eike, anything to consider?
