Re: [LIB] Probhlem ASPI Layer files on 100CT
Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2003 05:25:37 + From: "Matthew Hanson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [LIB] Probhlem ASPI Layer files on 100CT From: David Chien <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe This is the one I'm using that uses the Install.bat file from the command line! Yeah... Thats one of 4 updates Ive downloaded. It also includes the executable apsiinst.exe that will run an installation of the files. Have you ran any kind of utility that confirms that all your ASPI files are the correct ones, and configured properly? The problem is that aspi_471a2.exe only installs 2 out of 4 files that are reported as necessary for proper ASPI configuration: APIX.VCD 4.71.2 23115 BYTES 07/17/2 WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 45056 BYTES 07/17/2 Below is a list of the 4 files >of the same version< that must be installed in order for ASPI to operate properly. 3 upgrade files aspi_471a2.exe, aspi_v471.exe, and aspi_v470.exe all just install the two files above. They also contain a file, WINASPI.DL_ with the same date as the others, but that is not installed. Missing totally is the file ASPIENUM.VXD. The file aspi32.exe is apparently a W95 upgrade that installs the 4.60 files. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] In a message dated 2/18/03 6:29:28 PM Mountain Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > So I ended up running aspi_v470.exe which contrary to its file name, set up > the 4.60 versions of the APIX.VCD and WNASPI32.DLL ASPI files. I tripped over this site awhile ago - might be worth reviewing. http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm : ASPI drivers explained Thanks for that link Lee. But from Ive read there and elsewhere about setting up the correct ASPI drivers on Win98, it looks like the Adaptec v4.60 update files are the only ones out there that comply with ASPI requirements laid out on that page and others. This info from that page states: The four files needed for Win95/98/Me are the following: (example: WIN95 is the Windows95 home directory) WIN95\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\APIX.VXD WIN95\SYSTEM\WINASPI.DLL WIN95\SYSTEM\WNASPI32.DLL and ONE of the following two files WIN95\SYSTEM\ASPIENUM.VXD (this is the file that comes from Adaptec) WIN95\ASPI2HLP.SYS (this is the file that comes with Win95) In addition, all of the files must be of the same version. Mixing files from different versions doesnt work. At least when running Adaptecs ASPI checker. The only utilities I can find that checks a system for correct ASPI files are from Adaptec. And they only check for Adaptecs set of 4 drivers. They are all named aspichk.exe, but differ from one update package to the next. The oldest being W95 based, and 3 newer ones for W98. I dont see any utility to check the MS driver set. I have extracted all 4 of the original MS W98 ASPI drivers listed above with Windows SFC (System File Checker), including the ASPI2HLP.SYS file that replaces Adaptecs ASPIENUM.VXD. And Im guessing I could drop them into place after renaming the current files. But I without a utility to check them, Id just be going on trust. At least when I stay with the Adaptec 4.60 drivers, their utility confirms theyre correct. Ive searched and searched for a v4.71 of ASPIENUM.VXD, or any version newer than 4.60, but didnt find anything. All of the websites I've read only mention it being available as a v4.60 file. So since the 4 v4.60 files are confirmed as being correct by the Adaptec utility at this point, I guess Ill leave things as they are.
