[LIB] W2000 drivers gone from Philip's website, or never there?

Special EPR drivers for a 110 running W2000? I don't remember having to
install anything like that. I thought W2000 already had them. But my
short lived experience ended at the end of last years. So my memory is
fuzzy.

That's Philip's expertise. But I see no mention of EPR drivers on his
site:

http://home.hccnet.nl/pr.nienhuis/Windows.html

Matter of fact, I don't see any mention of the W2000 drivers for the Lib 110
on that URL in this note that I thought I found on Philips website last
year:

-

Windows 2000.

Some files that you will need to install windows 2000 ( win2k ) on a
libretto 100 (or 100ct) or 110 (and its variations.)

tosacp2k.exe

tosutil2k.exe

w2kpwrx1.exe

Strangely only one of these files are available from the Toshiba web site,
while all three were written and published by Toshiba!

Note: When all three are installed you are able to stop win2k from slowing
the processor. ( cpu power management as the battery drops ) Also it
restores the bios config to control panel, and allows configuration of the
brightness of the display.

Note on infrared: If you want to use an infrared mobile phone (like my nokia
8310e) via irda, you will need to go to add new hardware and find infrared
serial port, this will install a new device for connecting via serial.

-

I'm confused now as to just where I found that note and related drivers.
Maybe Philip sent me there in an off-list email back when.

Philip?

Still, I find no mention of W2000 drivers anywhere for the 100/110 EPR.

I just got a 50ct from my sister. Stock, no upgrades. Pretty cool. But
it comes sans floppy, sans cradle, (but it does have the headphone
adapter...). With working (though kinda short life-span) battery and AC
adapter. My landlord has a 110, with a cradle, but also no floppy. The
cradle is not backwards compatible, of course.

anyhow, I pretty much have two generations of these guys to play with, if I
really knew what to do with them. Anyhow here's where I've (barely) gotten
so far with the 50:

I can't get it to install the drivers for my Belkin 802.11b card (f5d6020
ver.2), or run a hell of a lot of anything actually. I think the 95
install is whacked and there really isn't any way to fix it, far as I can
tell. Just tells me that I'm missing .dll's every time I try to do
anything.

Check to make sure that's not a cardbus Belkin card. The 50 only supports
a 16 bit bus, and cardbus requires the 32 bit bus of the 100/110 models.

Check my recent post on this very subject, a recommended Belkin card, and
how to identify a cardbus PC card:

http://www.mail-archive.com/libretto@basiclink.com/msg15742.html

BTW: You'll have a lot fewer problems with drivers if you install W98SE on
your system, as it comes out of the box with many that support hardware of
that 'later early' vintage of such equipment.

I'd like to just install linux onto it, but all the instructions I can seem
to find online use a boot floppy.

There's quite a few people knowledgeable about Linux for Libbys on the list.
I'm not one. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

I have the following assets to work with: 3com megahertz (3ccfe574bt) lan
pc card and dongle

CF I/II adapter and about a gig of CF cards

Any suggestions for what the best way to go about attacking this sucker?
Can I install an OS off of a CF card? Some DSL-derivative maybe?

I don't think the very limited Lib BIOS will permit booting off anything but
the FDD and HDD.

Alternative question: If I were to spend any money at all, should I? Can
I buy a floppy for it somewhere? Would that help? Does it matter?

You can get FDDs on EBay for $15 and less these days. They do come in handy
when you can't boot off of a HDD. I don't use mine much these days, but
it's been the only way I've managed to fix a number of problems in the past
several years.

Yes! You have to have the power adapter connected to the EPR to enable USB.
I use a USB2 PC card for a much faster transfer rate when copying large
multimedia files. But I usually have to get power from the PS/2 port on the
EPR for most devices I connect to it.

And be sure to try Xin Feng's (www.fixup.net) trick of placing one or two
small disks of heavy weight paper inside the new mouse nub - it really
helps the

action of the L1xx Librettos' mouse.

Yup. And I've found that the older style cap on the 50/70 models work
better on the 100/110 models too for some reason. The 100/110 caps I've
seen are more 'rubbery', esp. on the front surface, whereas the 50/70 seem
firmer, and have a rough, textured surface. With the paper disks, the mouse
works a lot better. Though I find I occasionally have to lift the mouse and
rotate it a bit to reseat it for some reason.

I've been having problems with the mouse on my 100 going totally nutz.
Soimetimes it behaves as yours does carval. But more often it just starts
executing right-click menu items as I drag it around the desktop. I
>thought< it's been conflicting with the Yahama sound drivers, as I never
had the problem with my TDK PC sound card. But recently I've had the
problem with both sound drivers, and without them. My copy of W98SE is a
year old, and I've been having a number of other problems, some that result
in the system freezing. I think a fresh installation of 98SE, or restoring
a good image is in the works pretty soon.

I have had this problem myself, and the solution was to replace the
little "eraser head" that covers up the mouse control. Originally, two
spares came with the Libretto, so I am not sure where to find
replacements.

I have also found that a "light touch" on the mouse control works better
than a hard one.
