[LIB] LibSS1000 (Portege 30xx) IDE bus maste drive for Win2K
Date: Fri, 06 Jan 2006 19:57:25 +0300 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: LibSS1000 (Portege 30xx) IDE bus maste drive for Win2K Hi! I have successfully installed 30 GB 7.0 mm heigh 1.8 Hitachi (C4K60) hard disk in my Libretto. Believe it or not, it's virtually silent (apart from heads parking/unparking, of course). Inslalled Windows 2000. It works fine, however I cannot find the IDE driver. Win2K built-in driver is Standard IDE/ESDI controller, and it works only in PIO mode. So the drive works at ridiculous ~3 MB/s, even my old 2 GB drive was twice as fast (under Win95). I didn't expect it to be a problem as drivers for widely-supported Portege 3010/3015/3020 can be used for SS-series Libretto. Still I don't see the driver listed on any Toshiba site. I didn't install all Toshiba utilities yet, but they seem to be unrelated to IDE. I think I am not doing anything wrong as here: http://trashbox.homeip.net/nownow/20050317/ it says something like Win2K IDE driver for Dynabook 3000 (Japanese name for Portege 3000) is OK and supports UDMA33, you can get the driver from the one who has Dynabook Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Best regards, Vitaly

From: carval [EMAIL PROTECTED] *Sounds like the problem I had with my PCMCIA CD-ROM/Burner,the cable between the the pcmcia card and the drive had a short. The drive would worked if I twisted the cable in a certain position. At first I thougt it was very unlikely, but tried once again - and it worked! Apparently something is wrong with the cable. Thanks for the hint! Good news is that BIOS is fine. Please excuse me for the false alarm. Best regards, Vitaly

So, to keep it short, I need BIOS v7.60 or similar. I even have a friend who has the same model with v7.60 BIOS, but neither Toshiba nor any other utility allows to backup notebook BIOS, right? BIOS can be dumped by the various memory hex tools available for this purpose. but loading it back into another computer can be a problem - if the loader is not a familiar type, you may have the contents of the BIOS, but not be able to load it. Can anybody in Japan or with a good knowledge of Japanese help me? I see 2 possibilities here, either to contact Toshiba Japan Support and ask them for the old BIOS file or to post a message in a forum (mailing list, user group, Only user group forums I know of are the ones in Japanese at Nifty Toshiba forums Libretters Net. adorable toshiba libretto The latest news and information for the Toshiba Libretto owner. http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ __ Yahoo! Re: [LIB] two dead batteries or mb?

So I thought both neede charging? Well, either both battiers dye that the same time, or the charging system on the Libretto went bad? The computer does power-up with AC adapter. 1) Could be both batteries. Li-Ion chemistry does deteriorate over the years, and if you let any rechargable battery sit, it'll stop working in a few years. 2) Could be the charging circuit - but you can always test by connecting test leads to the Libretto between the battery and system to see if there's any current flowing through. 3) Could be something else. At this point, I'd try a new battery if the old ones are already 3+ years old. ebay.com has them as do other battery websites. adorable toshiba libretto The latest news and information for the Toshiba Libretto owner. http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ __ Yahoo! True, but I already tried it. No IDE driver. Japanese support site is far from perfection, too. For instance, for Libretto SS1000 one can now find only v8.10 BIOS update. Thanks anyway.
