It'll work. When I searched around 2-3 years ago, the problem was that there
were no CF / IDE adapters at that time that could fit into the HD slot
properly. Thus, I simply went to eBay, and picked up a 2.5" 6.x mm solid state
flash drive replacement cheap instead. These drives work fine, and are
basically the same thing as your idea. Sandisk.com has a bunch of them.
Search around and you may find CF / IDE adapters that'll fit nowadays.

But, GPS-wise, I'm using MapPoint 2004 on my L110 and it's limited by the CPU
and graphics processor speed mostly. HD access is more than fast enough to
load up the maps it needs, so it's mostly due to a 10+ year old PC =)

The memory module is probably a good culprit. A bad hard drive shouldn't
permanently freeze the machine in the bios (toshiba screen), though it might
make it hang there for awhile. Try going into the bios setup and staying
there for awhile...if it freezes there, it pretty much has to be a problem
with the memory, CPU, or motherboard.

It's much cheaper than buying a new Libby, so if you still want one you
might consider that.

The only time I ever had a similar problem with my L110 was when I put
in the 32MB memory extension - and that PCB had come slightly loose at
some point. Opened it, reseated the memory extension, problem gone.
