Have inserted the 4.3G drive from my 110CT into it and everything works, so I guess I just need a new HD. Could someone please advise as to what is the biggest size the 50CT can handle without digging into the case or whatever to make it larger. Just want something I can plug in and go with. RE: fdisk question (non-Lib specific)
Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 13:01:55 -0400 From: "Berlant, Michael S" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: fdisk question (non-Lib specific) I see two problems with that. First, one of the original premises is not to have to purchase Partition Magic or any other paid software utility. Second, isn't it dangerous to use NTFS for the C: partition? NTFS is good for the D: partition and beyond, but if you develop any corruption within the C: partition (very likely on a subportable like the Libretto, likely enough on any other PC), I don't believe there are any utilities on the market that can boot in DOS (from a floppy) and repair NTFS (on the HDD). Why not install NT on a 100MB (or more, if you need it just for the Operating System) FAT16 partition on C: and then NT FDISK the D: partition for [Disk size - c: - 2GB] and then create the E: partition for 2GB of FAT? And, by the way, don't forget to leave room for the hibernation area. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 24, 2000 9:38 AM To: Libretto Subject: RE: fdisk question (non-Lib specific) Why not just create an fat 16 partition, install NT, Get everything working, convert it to NTFS after NT has been installed and working. Then run partition magic and extend the rest of that partition to the entire disk. Thus one big partition. RE: Must have software
Date: Thu, 4 May 2000 23:53:12 -0500 From: "Berlant, Michael S" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Must have software Well, I'll bite. I bought my Lib60 almost 4 years ago to use with my flight navigation software. Flight and ground navigation now make up only about half of my Lib's duty hours now. I quickly found that the limitation of the small keyboard was more than balanced by the compact size of this real PC. The Lib goes with me to meetings to take notes or make quick inquiries on the internet or company intranet. With its large (6.4GB) hard drive, I also use my Lib to burn CDs when I am on the road. My 14-hour external battery allows me to play Video CDs on trains and commercial flights and in hotel rooms. The iR port allows me to interface with my Canon BJC-50 battery powered printer/scanner, my Casio Freedio hand scanner, my PalmVx and my Motorola GSM cell phone. I find that none of these devices suffers from the slow iR interface. Around the home or office, the Lib connects into the LAN via wireless LAN. On the road, my Xircom combo card gives me Ethernet and Modem in one slot. I have a good friend who is a locksmith. He liked my Lib so much that he bought one to keep his key code software on hand. This allowed him to remove about 6 linear feet of 3-ring binders from his service van. I guess the key is in how you look at the Libretto. If you compare it to a full size (and weight) laptop, you'll only see the shortcomings. If you compare it to a wince device or Palm device, you'll appreciate how useful it is to have a real PC in such a small package. That's just my two pence.
