I don't know if I've ever known a part number, but the best place to the
16MB module is Ebay. Search for 'Libretto memory'. Adding '16' might
narrow the field, but is probably not necessary, or maybe '50CT' or '70CT'
(same memory).

However, since memory for those old systems has become a bit rare at this
point, the price has gone up substantially. I think the going price the
last I knew was around $60. In years past you could get it for $25-$35.

Wow... I see none on EBay right now for the 50CT! One Buy Now for $49.00,
and a few at $72 for the 32MB 100/110CT module.

New they can go for as high as $150 at Impact:

http://www.impactcomputers.com/toshiba-libretto-50ct-parts-memory.html

Looking at that page, I didn't know there was EDO, and non- EDO memory for
Libbys, or that there were 8MB modules. I wonder what the diference is
between the 16MB module that dosn't specify EDO for $150, and the one that
does for $145. You might call them and ask, and report back here.

Just keep checking on EBay.

Good luck.

Matt

[LIB] FF1100 memory upgrade?

2005-09-07 Thread Ashley Saint

From: Ashley Saint [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: FF1100 memory upgrade?

Hi,

I know this list seems to be more focused on the earlier model
Librettos, but hopefully someone can help me. I've come up with lots
of helpful information in the archives, but I need something current,
can someone help me upgrade the ram in my FF1100 by either telling me
where I can get some memory for it or maybe it takes the same ram as
other models?

I've had it running win98 english for a while now and everything works
perfectly except the ishuttle which works but doesnt launch any
applications (not that I really care, it was just a novelty to me) and
the snap button which is supposed to take a photo, but neither of these
is very important. However I'm finding win98 a bit of a pain (ah the
memories!) and so would like to try win2k as I have found a method of
installing it without internet explorer which should speed it up quite
a bit, but I think 128mb of ram would be advisable before installing
win2k (or is 98mb maximum, I thought it was 128...)

Anyway, _any_ help with locating a memory upgrade for the 1100 would be
much appreciated.

Cheers,
Ash

From a local laptop dealer, Ultimate Laptop Shop, the boss told me that parts
for the ff 1100 are compatible with parts for the Protégé 3010. This includes
stuff like power, RAM, and battery packs. To prove his point, he demonstrated
an extended battery on my ff 1100 and it worked!

Assuming it's a libretto 110 (the only one I've opened up) it should be in the
middle left roughly under where the caps lock key would be on the keyboard.
It's face down and screwed into position so it just looks like a pcb as opposed
to specifically a memory board. AFAIK it's the only board that is accessibile
from under the keyboard.

Hope the helps,

A.

If you have 32mb RAM I don't think that you will see anything. The
expansion slot is on the left side and that's where the additional 32mb
RAM go. The first 32mb of RAM is soldered to the motherboard and is not
removeable.

The 32MB upgrade presses on top of the expansition slot and is held in
place by a screw.

What Des said is true - the plastic strip is very delicate. When I opened
my L100CT up to re-seat my 32MB expansion card I notice that the screw (a
single screw) that secures the keyboard was missing. It's worked well thus
far without it. It looks to be very small so be careful with it.

Gently lift the keyboard up from the top by the number keys, tilt it toward
you. It will be attached in 3 places with ribbon cable. You should not
have to disconnect anything to install the RAM card.

Reverse the procedure. When replacing the top plastic strip start from the
LEFT side and move toward the right as you set it back into place.

You can get a 32mb upgrade card to increase your Libretto ram
 to 64MB
cheapest place to pickup one of these cards would be ebay:

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=31572item=6740191223rd=1ssPageName=WDVW

fairly easy upgrade to do, remove the little bit of plastic at the
  top of
the keyboard, unscrew a few screws and its a 10 minute job.

What Des said is true - the plastic strip is very delicate. When
 I opened
my L100CT up to re-seat my 32MB expansion card I notice that the
 screw (a
single screw) that secures the keyboard was missing. It's worked
 well thus
far without it. It looks to be very small so be careful with it.

Gently lift the keyboard up from the top by the number keys, tilt
 it toward
you. It will be attached in 3 places with ribbon cable. You
 should not
have to disconnect anything to install the RAM card.

Reverse the procedure. When replacing the top plastic strip start
 from the
LEFT side and move toward the right as you set it back into place.

Subject: Toshiba Libretto 110 Memory Upgrade

Hi all,

Does anyone know a UK company still stocking the 32 Mb memory modules for the Libretto
110? or alternatively does anyone have one to sell?

I know/hope I could pick one up on ebay, but they don't come along very often and I'd
like to upgrade sooner rather than later.

Thanks in advance,

Alan.

PS - the 3 modules on ebay.com are US shipment only

The battery sits vertically in a little slot between the main battery and

The leads and plug are the only bits that go anywhere near the memory

Just had one apart (not mine :) 5 mins ago.

I think thats just because someone else had opened the libby and didn't know where the

to be bothered fixing the problem. It should tuck down the FRONT of the circuit board
in that region and not on TOP of it (between the circuit board and the battery

Sounds right (of course I should probably check but I can't be bothered, I woke up 5

If it looks like a few watch batteries wrapped in green shrink wrap with a couple of
leads coming out and ending in a well terminated plug it should be pretty good.

3) Is the problem just me being a klutz?

Can't answer that one ;-)

OK I just realized he was talking the 110ct and not the 50/70ct on which I was basing
my description ... having said that I'd imagine it would be the same though, the
insides of all the Toshiba laptops I've seen (including some really old ones) all have
some clearly identifiable place to put the RTC battery (not to say its labelled but
that it looks like a hollow or a box or something like that molded into the plastic
thats just the right size for it). Anything from an expansive Tecra (which has a box
for TWO batteries, one is probably a backup to the RTC backup?) to a tight Portege
(which simply has a cutout in the circuit board on 2 sides and a plastic barrier on
the other 2) have such a position for the RTC battery. If the battery just looks like
its sitting on top of a circuit board and free to move around then thats most probably
NOT where it belongs.

I have visited Toshiba's USA online purchaseweb site, I saw their memory
upgrade for L50 has a 32MB version which is cheaper than 16MB. The model
no. is the same with L100/L110. Do any one know the 32MB upgrade is
suitable for L50 which can get a total 48MB?

I'm sure the manufacturers specs for the L50 L70 say 32mb max.

The L50 only takes 16 Meg upgrades, that the search returned a 32 Meg
upgrade option is an error.

Nothing has changed, the maximum RAM in an L50 is 32 Meg.

Sorry.

KTT-LBT/16 Kingston 16MB Memory Module $151.00

FYI, I used http://www.coastmemory.com/result.asp?modelID=4641 for my
upgrade buying 16 more MB of RAM for $53 plus shipping. Their part number is
PTT-LBT/16i. No problems ordering, shipping, or in use (past two months) of
the memory chip.

Fabio,

If windows hangs then the module is faulty: it's probaly got a short between
a couple of address lines, or and address line open circuit so that you can
write to one address but read it from another. Windows (or even more
rational operating systems) doesn't like that.

Take it back to the supplier and hit them till they gove you a replacement
:)

Hi David.

They must have given you a 8MB RAM module instead of a 16MB module.

I don't tink so. The P/N is correct and the QC code of RAM is the same of
the QC reported on packaging.

Windows hangs up with expansion installed. so I think that the problem is
not the size of the module.

Ciao Christian

I would re-seat the ram module. If it doesn't work,
 the chip is bad.

I have extracted and reinserted the module.. now it do not seem to hang
up the system but my Lib still reads 24 Mb instead of 32 Mb. :-(
