Evening Tanya,

I have many boot floppies, but I'm worrying if Libretto can boot from
its PCMCIA floppy? When I boot it from hard drive and select command
prompt only, seems that it doesn't see a floppy drive. Is that
normal?... In Windows, floppy drive is available.

Can you boot from one of these floppies? If not you will need to go into
Control panel in Windows and setup so the Libretto boots to A: first.
There should be a Toshiba System icon; if not you can download from
Toshiba Website.

Good luck - Keith

Greetings to =Keith=!

K After you have copied all of the CD, delete or (rename and hide) C:\windows
K and run setup. If install complains of existing OS attrib sys files and delete,
K after you ensure you have a boot floppy to fall-back on of course.

Greetings!

To me the answer is obvious. That was your friend who was playing with
libretto thus he has to fix it and then offer you a new HD with a bunch of
 roses.

The problem is that he lives in another city, far away from here, and
he already has gone home. He wanted to get Libretto with him to work
with it, but I can't give it away. I'm just afraid after this
accident.

You really do not have follow Nekrasov's :
  ?? ? ?, ? ??? ??...

I think that digest processing software deleted cyrillic letters, so
translit could be better.

Finally if your friend refuses kick his ass.

I can't prove him for sure that my HD didn't have bad blocks before the
mashine was dropped. I bought it not long ago and forgot to run
surface scan. But all the troubles came after that accident. My friend
is sure that's dog's fault, not his 8)

I'd better figure out, which files I can delete safely. Can I delete
all windows directory, and would Win95 want to be installed over it
then? I'm worrying about all the drivers, also.

Tatiana

What you will want to do is copy the Win 95 CD onto your libretto, then
remove everything off of your HD *except* what is needed to boot to dos.

THen boot to dos, and run setup from your Win95 cd copy.

You should probably copy over all the drivers as well, so they can be easily
installed.

The trick will be convincing WIn95 that there isn't a later version of
Windows installed.

But, you really should do some repair on that bad HD...

www.west-tech.com has $90 10 Gig drives, $120 20 Gig drives, and $250 for 30
Gig drives, FYI. (all 9.5 mm IBM Travelstars)

I know, my 12 Gig Toshiba gave up the ghost last week, and I need a
replacement for it (for my Tecra 8000, not a Linretto).

 Greetings!

I subscribed to the list hoping to get some help with my trouble...
I've read some FAQs including Adorable libretto's page,
but still not sure I have all the info to solve
this problem myself... So I'm asking for help in the list.

As it happens usually, my friend was playing with my 50ct and my dog
was jumping around... next moment, an unpredictable move of the dog,
and the computer (it was the time of booting windows...) dropped to the
floor. :( As a result, 18 bad blocks, but after scandisk, Windows was
booting normally and I thought that everything was OK.

Some days later, I noticed that I can't access device manager by any way
(from
desktop or control panel...), and later, after my attempt to install
an antivirus software, Windows stopped booting normally, just giving
msgsrv32 caused the error... messages and freezing
 (safe mode also doesn't work).
If I delete the registry files in command line mode, I can boot
windows, but I can't install anything because it again brings up this
msgsrv problem... think it's all because of these bad blocks.

So I think it's time to replace the hard drive and install new OS
or just re-install Windows. I don't have movey right now for new
HDD... so I need to re-install Windows. Can you please help
me with that, because I'm curious about this hibernation partition and
bad blocks on the drive. I was running scandisk many times, but number
of bad blocks doesn't grow (hopefully it wouldn't). I don't know if it
would be enough to place Windows distributive files on hard drive and
run setup from DOS mode. I don't have PCMCIA CD-ROM, but I think I can
transfer files from desktop computer with LPT-LPT cable...

So, I badly need help and advices from experts, what can I do in this
situation and how do I re-install Windows on Libretto. Also, my
libretto had russian Windows 98 on it, and I'd prefer to have Win95
OSR. Could it be better? Shouldn't I remove all Windows 98 files from
the hard drive before re-installation? I don't have any settings I
want to keep - but I'm afraid how newly installed Windows would
recognize the libretto hardware (accupoint and other specific devices)
and would it be able to use hibernation partition?...

 Thanks in advance
