FW: Windows 2000 Question

I have dial-up connection thus I will send it to you a bit later when I get time in case you will handle the other requests. BTW I got rid off tfunkey (seems to be some tool used to directly change power settengs by Fn key but does not work to me) and tdispoff from "Run" in registry. -Original Message- From: Brian McIlvaine [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2000 5:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Windows 2000 Question Unable to get the file at the URL you specified - could you send it to me? I routinely use standby vice hibernation, and read with interest that the BIOS will do a direct write to disk if it orders a hibernation that will essentially trash my hard disk - unless I am exceptionally lucky. Is there a way to identify and partition that area without a reinstallation of W2K?? I followed the discussion of writing all ones and looking for the area... but I am uninterested in doing that - I'll just continue to operate like I am and take the chance. There is indirect way to proceed. Boot from DOS floppy. Then run any utility that reports HD geometry eg Caldera fdisk (comes with any Powerquest software) or PTS diskeditor (free). You will see that your disk upper limit is only Cyl 1016 Head 255 and Sector 64 which is different from usual 1024 cylinder limit. Now a bit of calculation: (1024-1016)*255*64*512/1024=65280KB Control Panel-System reports that I have 65136KB of RAM. This should fit between 1016 and 1024 cylinders. Yet noone can confirm that BIOS effectively hibernates into that area. I will try to figure that out as oon as I get my 6GB disk back for backup. I highly recommend to free that area just in case.
