You can also use the MinGW tools.  http://www.mingw.org/
They are lighter weight (but less comprehensive) than cygwin.

You could also run a VirtualBox virtual machine under Windows with a Linux
environment.

Finally, there is a version of vim for Windows:

Does anyone know if it would be possible to make the links in the regular
PDF reader go to Frescobaldi?
I have discovered Frescobaldi (after years of hacking away at LilyPond the
hard way!) and quite like it!  But I like to use Acrobat Reader for a
maximized view of my score.
If it can't be done with Frescobaldi, Notepad or MS-DOS Edit also work for
me.  LilyPad is O.K. most of the time too, but it can't handle Unicode! :O
I know how to register a protocol, and those links will help, but I wonder
which method of scripting glue might work for this.  I fear that anything
beyond simple batch scripting would be beyond my abilities to figure out!

I hate a modal editor like vi where I have to remember whether I'm in
edit mode or enter data mode.

It's a good tradeoff for touch typists.  The farthest you ever need to
reach is the Escape key (admittedly a longer reach on many keyboards of
today than of vi's creation time) and you don't need to hold down
control for extended times which helps with hand strain, these days a
rather relevant problem with many prolific programmers.

I used vi before Emacs was usefully available and it's a reasonable
deal.  Nowadays a bit harder to discover since current day vi clones and
probably even the original have started to support cursor keys, and not
just that, but also support them in insert mode.

That kind of muddles the underlying concept where forgetting the mode
you were in was not really much of an option since either mode had to
rely on the same keys.

it.

One (of many) advantages with using Frescobaldi is that you can 
configure it for multiple versions of Lilypond. Frescobaldi will use the 
correct one depending on you \version

left offsetting dotted note leaves dot unmoved

Hi all,
I'm trying to left offset a dotted note in a CueVoice, but although the 
note is shifted left as expected, the dot is not moved left.
How can I make the dot go left as well?
(I don't want to move the alternative voice to the right, or it would be 
difficultly readable.)

Hi all,

Sorry about this hosting issue, it's been fixed. I was attempting to also
change WordPress themes and that backfired so I tabled that idea for now.
Also, I've had a few roadblocks in my life and work which delayed my new
Lilypond series. But they will be uploaded, for sure. I'm really proud of
them and eager to offer them up to the community. Hope all is well with
everyone,
