Canorus and Lilypond 2.13.x

2009-11-06 Thread Martin Tarenskeen

Hi,

Lilypond and Canorus are both officially available for my Linux Fedora 11
system. But for correct display of the fonts on screen this canorus
distribution depends on lilypond version 2.12.x.

But I want to try and use the latest lilypond devel version 2.13.x.
If I compile and install lilypond 2.13.x , canorus' screen display of
fonts is broken.

The problem is, I think, the emmentaler-14 font. But I have not been able
to work around this problem yet.

Has anyone else seen this problem ?
Is there a way to have both the newest (devel) versions of Lilypond and
Canorus installed, and still have fonts displayed correctly in Canorus ?

Where? When I user Help|User's Guide in the Windows version, I get an

You need to build the docs first b4 building the app, otherwise the help

There is a _very_ rudimentary User Guide at
https:/canorus.berlios.de/wiki/index.php/Users_Guide

It has a few key bindings and stuff for editing Lyrics but no hint on
how to get started with a new score. As far as I can tell the
developers came from a thing called NoteEdit running on Linux which has
stopped development, so if any of you are Linux users, have a look at
NoteEdit, see if _it_ has any documentation and if this gives you a clue
on getting started. I think the first bit of Canorus has been a port to
see if they can get the old NoteEdit code running on Windows and Mac/OS,
too.

My 2p worth

Cheers,
Ian

Canorus 0.5 released

2008-01-27 Thread Matevž Jekovec
Canorus development team is happy to announce the new release of Canorus - a
free cross-platform music score editor, version 0.5. The new version brings
lots of new features and import/export improvements. Upgrade is recommended for
all the users.

You can download it here:
http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6144

*Note for Windows users*: Please use .xml file format for storing your scores.
There is a known issue opening the new .can files under Microsoft Windows.

Changelog:
- Implemented infrastructure for getting MIDI-IN events.
- Lots of internal API changes:
  - Generalized Import and Export classes. New fileformats can now be
implemented simply
by inheriting those classes.
  - Import and Export are now done in their own threads.
  - Rewritten Voice class for insertion, deletion and manipulation for music
elements.
The score should now always stay consistent when removing a shared element
from a
single voice.
  - Scripting engine now uses internal CA-class name names instead of class
names only.
This solves the naming clashing problem in various scripting languages that
don't
use namespaces (eg. PHP) and enum-class names clashes.
- Added marks:
  - Arbitrary text
  - BookMark
  - Tempo (bpm)
  - Ritardando, Accellerando
  - Fermata (normal, short, long, very long)
  - Dynamic (f, mf, p, sfz, etc.)
  - Crescendo, Decrescendo
  - Pedal (sustain)
  - Instrument change (effects midi as well)
  - Rehersal marks (A, B, C, D etc. on barlines)
  - Repeat marks (coda, varcoda, segno, volta)
  - Fingering (finger numbers, strings thumb, organ's left/right heel/toe)
- Added articulation marks:
  - Accent, Marcato, Staccatissimo, Espressivo, Staccato, Tenuto, Portato
  - Up bow, Down bow, Flageolet, Open, Stopped
  - Turn, ReverseTurn, Trill, Prall, Mordent, PrallPrall, PrallMordent, UpPrall,
DownPrall, UpMordent, DownMordent, PrallDown, PrallUp, LinePrall
- Implemented export to Midi.
- New file format CAN - compressed CanorusML format with resources. This is now
the
  default file format for Canorus.
ISSUE: Please use CanorusML file format when using the document on cross
platforms.
- Using new RtMidi-1.0.7 library.
- New translations (Canorus speaks 12 languages):
  - Danish
  - Norwegian-NB
  - Traditional Chinese
  - German
  - Hungarian
  - French
- Lots of other cleanups and bugfixes.

Re: Canorus 0.2.5 is out

2007-03-31 Thread Fred Leason

Thanks Sam,

Perhaps I am not asking for help in the right way.

I know these two postings should have been under Canorus but you can
look at them anyway:
https://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?
func=detailbuggroup_id=1bug_id=10693
https://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?
func=detailbuggroup_id=1bug_id=10735

and this is the latest one I put into Canorus help.
https://developer.berlios.de/forum/message.php?msg_id=37096

In summary, the errors in 10693 are due to SWIG and Python, thus
Matevž told me to excluding them from the cmake build.

10735 resolved in svn R425
and 37096 is open. Don't know how to proceed.

What is the best way to get help? BerliOS? canorus-devel? I would
like to give this a try. From what you said about Resegarden and
Demeno, Canorus is the better bet.

As for Lilypond.app, I used it for a while. But on OSX, when you
download the whole Tex environment (http://www.tug.org/mactex/ ,) you
get a gui app called TexShop.app. It is more feature rich than
Lilypond.app and accepts and runs .ly files without problem.

Canorus should compile out of the box on OS X as long as the
prerequisites are installed (on 10.4 that is; there may be issues with
previous versions). So far I have been compiling it on PPC, but the
PPC

builds have been tested on Intel as well and run fine under emulation.

Someday in the not-too-distant future I hope to look into making
universal binaries. In the very near future (hopefully within the next
week) OS X installer packages will be ready (PPC binaries, .pkg in a
.dmg); I have been putting off posting binary packages until I have
some build system updates ready to commit to svn.

As for other GUI programs, Rosegarden has been ported to OS X via Fink
and X11, although it doesn't do sound on OSX, and the last time I
tried
to build it it didn't work for some reason. Denemo has also been
ported
in the same way, but I'm not sure how alive that project is these
days.

I'm sure you already know about Lilypond.app, although it is probably
not quite the GUI you were hoping for :). It is a standalone
GUI .app
that lets you compile .ly files and generate PDFs though, but you
still

have to enter the score as Lilypond code.

I am very interested to hear about any issues you've had building
Canorus on OSX; please follow up to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
