It works fine for 'tagline' but not for 'piece' 

Maybe I will have to try lilypond-book for what I want.

Try:

piece = "\\center Title"
piece = {\\center{"Title"}}

Either or both would work with past versions of ly2dvi.  It is
customary to center the copyright notice.  daveA
