I filter HTML, because HTML in email is usually spam. "Inline" images
imply HTML and thus get filtered too.

Why on earth would anyone filter inline images? They are extremely convenient.
 They’re right there in the email, one doesn’t have to change context to a
browser and interrupt the flow of reading the message.

On the other hand, for me who gets the lilypond-user messages in the Digest
form, attachments suck big time. For example, below after the " next
part “ line is a link to such an attachment (I think). When I click on
that link, the result is:

That’s not very convenient at all. Am I the only one with this problem?
What’s the solution?

Maybe it would be nice if inline images were also added as attachments?

I get in Google-Chrome that the site is not available with the expalnation that
the connection is
refused (err_connection_refused).

Details lead tot a google-search for lilypond org.

In Firefox I get the message that firefox is unable to load the page with the
statement that it
may be overloaded, and so please try later, to check the network-connection of
the computer
when no page can be loaded, or a firewall- and/or proxy-problem.

The error from Google-Chrome is probably the best option, now why did that
happen? whois
seems to be in order, so what else can be the problem.

Maybe the LAMP-stack of lilypond.org?

BTW: I am an user who knew abit of systemadministration as a professional, but
networking, I
would leave that to the real pro's.

Frankly, you won't get any argument from me about having in-line images, I
just know that some other regular list followers have mentioned this in the

Re: Piece/instrument names choice

2016-03-10 Thread Menu Jacques
Hello Kieren,

Thanks, I was missing such ideas!

One last question: in the following, is there a way to force « CONCERTO » to
show up before the beginning of the staff, as Staff.instrumentName would?

Playing with X-offset as in:

c''1
-\tweak self-alignment-X #-4
-\markup {\fontsize #1 \bold "CONCERTO"}

moves the note and markup horizontally, but not to the left of the beginning of
the staff.

Thanks for your help!

Variable slur thickness

2016-03-10 Thread Sharon Rosner
Hi All

The following example shows slurs of variable length, engraved using a
bigger than normal thickness. The first slur looks a bit too thick, and I'm
having a hard time balancing the slur thickness so both short and long slurs
would look good.

Would there be a way to change the slur thickness in proportion to its
length, so short slurs will be thinner and longer ones will be thicker?

  \translate #'(1.25 . 2.8)\beam #3 #0 #.5

\concat {

Piano_Tab Notation; Tie customization

2016-03-10 Thread Philip Bergwerf
Hello everyone,

I am developing a alternative notation method. Piano_Tab Notation.
(http://www.ambrosepianotabs.com/) Its like you are reading a piano roll
editor with traditional rhytmic notation. This is a variation to the ambrose
pianotab. I dont want to work with colors so i made a system with thick
striped lines on the central c sharp and d sharp.

I dont like the rhytmic notation. Because this notation has one staff you
can use only 2 voices. Otherwise it will look unclear. Well when writing
this:
4    1 \bar "|."
on a Piano_Tab staff you can read what's written but it is very unusual. In
traditional notation you can write 2 different voices in the upper staff and
in this case i have one voice for one hand. so i was thinking about tweaking
the ties. Is it possible in lilypond to make a horizontal straight line
between tied notes? This is what i made:

BEGIN CODE
\version "2.16.2"
%Piano_Tab template
\language "nederlands"
\header {
 title = "Piano_Tab example"
 composer = "composer"
}

PtStaff =\relative c''
{<<{
 %v1
 4    1 \bar "|."
   }\\{
 %v2

}>>}

\score {
  \new PianoStaff \with {
staffLineLayoutFunction = #ly:pitch-semitones
middleCPosition = #-6
clefGlyph = #"clefs.G"
clefPosition = #(+ -6 7)
  }{
\override Staff.StaffSymbol #'line-positions = #'(21 19 16 14 12 9 7 4
   2 0 -2.8 -3 -3.2 -4.8
-5 -5.2 -8 -10 -12 -15 -17 -20 -22 -24 -27 -29)\time 4/4 << \PtStaff >>}
  \layout {
\context {
  \Staff
  \remove "Accidental_engraver"
  \remove "Key_engraver"
  \remove "Clef_engraver"
}
  }
}
END CODE

Cheers Philip Bergwerf

Sorry, I should have showed how to use this snippet (once you've included
the command somehow):

%%%

\markup {
  \ezscore ##{ { c8[ c] } #}

  \ezscore ##{ { \tuplet 3/2 { c4 c8 } } #}

I get what you're saying. The point though is that you're going to need to
do some kind of manual placement of lines/beams/dots/numbers/whatever
(i.e., via \translate #'(...), etc.) for each part of the music. That's the
beauty of that function, since it takes care of all that automatically!
That's all the example was meant to show. (I didn't create the "before"
part of the example, btw. Not that it matters.)

Best,
Abraham

Piano_Tab Notation; questions ;-)

2016-03-10 Thread Philip Bergwerf
Hi everyone,

Today i typed Fur Elise into lilypond on a Piano_Tab staff. And because i am
developing Piano_Tab notation a have a bunch of questions about tweaking.

1. how can i place the rests in a custom default position? When writing low
on a staff i want a rest also low on the staff. and i think it would be more
clear if rests from voice two are always placed down and for voice one up.
How to do this?

2. I made this custom staff using
%begin
\override Staff.StaffSymbol #'line-positions = #'(enter line positions)
%end
.
Sometimes the note is not fitting on the staff so i have to change the key
or make some extra lines. (look at bar 79) I did this by the following code:
%begin
 \stopStaff \override Staff.StaffSymbol #'line-positions = #'(21 19 16 14 12
9 7 4 2 0 -2.8 -3 -3.2 -4.8 -5 -5.2 -8 -10 -12 -15 -17 -20 -22 -24 -27 -29
-32 -34 -36) \startStaff
%end
This is a lot of text. Is there a way to increase text when changing the
number of stafflines?

3. Is it possible to make you own for example \pianotabStaff?

__
%%%The Fur Elise Piano_Tab .ly
\version "2.16.2"
%Piano_Tab template

You want to show the advantage of your approach compared with the
_best_ what LilyPond could do before not compared to some worse
coding.
Hence, I'd change the "before" to using \beam.

Hi Abraham,

I had a look.
Pretty nice one, some nitpicks, though.

How about:

#(define (variable-slur-thickness min-l max-l min-t max-t)
  (lambda (grob)
(let* ((cpt (ly:grob-property grob 'control-points))
   (cp0 (car cpt))
   (cp3 (cadddr cpt))
;; dx/dy is clearer I think
   (dx (- (car cp3) (car cp0)))
   (dy (- (cdr cp3) (cdr cp0)))
;; avoids Pythagoras
   (len (magnitude (make-rectangular dx dy)))
;; avoids nested if
   (thickness
 (cond ((< len min-l) min-t)
   ((> len max-l) max-t)
   (else
 (+ min-t
(* (- len min-l)
   (/ (- max-t min-t) (- max-l min-l
  (ly:grob-set-property! grob 'thickness thickness

  Harm

change notehead color or size inside chord?

Hi all is it possible to change the color or size of a notehead inside a chord?
My attempts so far have been unfruitful…

2016-03-10 Thread Sharon Rosner
Hi Abraham,

Putting this code into actual use, I found a show stopper. After a line
break, the slur thickness stops being adjusted and reflects the default
thickness value.

Any idea?

Sharon

I created something similar to show the problem. Looks to me like this has to
do with broken spanners but it’s really bizarre. See the enclosed files.

If one has LilyPond installed, doesn't one already have python
installed also? (Thus I have LP's 2.4 as well as Debian's 2.7
and 3.4.)

BTW what do the utilities do?

Question about Denemo accessibility with mac with voice overfor Richard Shann possibly?

2016-03-10 Thread Daniel Contreras
Hello everyone,

Lilypond has been my go to software for the past few semesters and I have found
it very useful and I am very grateful to all who have contributed to its
development. My question is about the Denemo software, particularly the
possibility of making it accessible for blind users. I know that may be a long
shot, but I am willing to help in anyway that i can. If anyone is interested,
and or if this is even remotely possible, i haved copied a link which will
hopefully be useful. Thank U all for your time, take care.

modifiedNote has to be defined without backslash just like every other
variable or music or event function. Then, the braces aren’t necessary
but you need the \etc for the music argument of this function.

\version "2.19.37"

modifiedNote =
\tweak color #grey
\tweak font-size #-2
\tweak Accidental.color #grey
\tweak Accidental.font-size #-2
\etc

\relative c'' {
4 f g b
}
