Re: lingo-l URGENT miaw problem

Is your MIAW movie open in Director while running projector?
Double check that the bitmap is actually 1 bit.
Try creating the bitmap again.
Use a projector .ini file to find the exact error message that is returned.

I'm trying to do that non-rect miaw
function.

When I'm working in the main movie and call up the miaw, works fine (of
course minus the non-rect alpha -- that only works in projector).

But when I run it in projector, it opens the miaw and then craps out with a
script runtime error, and then a number -214721959.

Here's what's happening; main movie (with the alpha masks) opens the miaw.
The miaw shows itself for a second, before it just quits, as does the
projector.

Both the main movie and miaw have go the frames going (I"m not THAT big of

But I'm really confused why if I run the movie in authoring mode, it WILL

--Thanks a lot in advance

The QTVR object's pan angle property can be both tested and set. Just
change the pan angle of the QTVR in a repeating loop of some kind. I
typically will use an exitFrame handler to do this -- incrementing or
decrementing the pan angle each exitFrame event by some amount
appropriate to how fast you wish to pan -- so other events can also
occur concurrently. A straight repeat loop will lock everything else
out until it finishes.

   Sorry for the bad english,

Anyway I need Director to set some variable inside the QT that is make

The only way I know of to get Director and wired Quicktime talking to
each other is to hack through any of the following properties:

VR pan/tilt/fieldOfView
Qt movie volume
Enabling/disabling tracks
movietime

The VR hack is the best, because you often don't need VR in your
Quicktime movie, so you can afford to sacrifice those properties to
something else.

You have three integers to play with. Just make the smallest QTVR movie
you can, bring it into liveStage and you can read and write pan/tilt and
fieldOfView to communicate with lingo, which can also read and write to
these properties. You can disable the VR tracks so that they are not
even visible.

I made a little movie where you can manipulate a Quicktime wired sprite
with lingo, and you can poll the VR properties to see what the wired
actions want lingo to do.

For Quicktime movies with no sound, you can use the movie volume to
communicate between lingo and wired sprites (etc.)

Is that possible ? Do I need any Xtra ?

The (third-party) QTIAW Xtra, now in beta, has support for wired
messages, so you don't need to resort to such hacks, and you don't need
to do any polling.

I use Dir 7 now. Will Dir 8 can do that ?

No. More's the pity. Macromedia are dragging their heels on Quicktime
support these days.

The problem with the approach you have in mind is that anyone with
Quicktime Pro can go in and delete the sprite tracks, and your
protection is lost, although if you make the Quicktime with save
disabled, it would certainly make life difficult - they'd be able to
view the movie without protection, but not save it.

A better way to do this might be to use the Sorenson Codec's media keys
feature, which will do exactly what you want. You can then unlock the QT
with a lingo command, so that it only plays inside Director.

Other people have reported success with the binaryIO Xtra to 'corrupt'
the QT movie, and then fix it again just before playing it.

Re: lingo-l URGENT miaw problem

This code 100% works for me. If it does not for you then perhaps you have an
issue with your machine, not the Lingo.

This code goes in the Main movie.

on mouseUp
miaw = window "test"
miaw.windowType = member("mask")
open miaw
end

The member "mask" is also in the main movie, not the MIAW.

To be on the safe side, close ALL instances of Director to make sure that
the MIAW project is closed and is available for re-loading. Director only
allows one file instance running at a time.

Hope we can finally get this working for you!

Hi Charlie,

I had a similar problem almost 2 years ago and was able to solve with the
help of the good citizens here on Direct-L. It played fine on most machines
but was out of sync only on Windows NT 4.0

First of all it would help us if we knew the details of the computer that
was giving you these problems. Was it NT? CPU speed? Amount of Ram, version
of QuickTime and Director etc.

1) The first thing that gets my attention is that 180 kb/sec is high for a
Sorenson compression.

2) What was the source of the video? If the video was captured with a
version of Premiere 5 then it was likely 29.97 NTSC captured and most
computers use 30 fps. Absoulutely nothing we tried could even repair the
video until we went back and re-digitised the source video with Premiere 5
at 30 fps and then all was well.

I gave a beta of the CD I'm finishing to the client to test, and the
QuickTime works fine on most computers, but on at least one computer, the
videos' sound skips every couple of seconds. Not the video, just the sound.
So by the end of the video, it has skipped enough that the sound is
noticeably off-sync with the video. I think this is the problem of his
computer and QuickTime player, but I'm not sure. Is there any solution?
I'm using Sorenson compression capped off at 180 kb/sec. I am preloading
the movies, also. (it does it outside of the projector just in the
 QuickTime player, also.)

Subject: lingo-l Can I use Lingo to Set Variable (Make by LiveStage)
in QuicKTime

I need a security method to protect my Video inside Director and
inside the CDROM.
I think about use LiveStage Pro's Qscript to make a vvariable say
Enable.
This variable can set by Director's Lingo. And there are other method
to protect the CDROM.
But If user just open the QT file it still canot open it.
It can only start inside the CDROM's playback enviroment.(Inside
Projector).

Anyway I need Director to set some variable inside the QT that is make
by Livestage.

The best you'll be able to do in Director is enable or disenable tracks
in QuickTime. You could make a QuickTime Sprite Track in LiveStage which
stops the movie on every frame, then in you Lingo, setTrackEnabled for
that track to false inside your Director movie. You could do the exact
same thing with a Flash Track embedded in a QuickTime movie, with an
action that either stops the movie on every frame or throws it back to
the start frame from any frame in its timeline. You'd set the Flash
Track enabled or not using the same Lingo.

Process the QuickTime movie in Apple's free utility "PluginHelper" to
disable anyone from just yanking the Sprite or Flash Track out of it, or
editing and resaving it.
