Re: [linux] AGM -- NOW!

2020-04-09 Thread Scott Murphy
Yes, there is a browser interface as well. Might even be linked on the screen
somewhere.

Sorry for missing the meeting, I fell asleep. It has been a long week with
early days and late nights. We will use IRC for the next attempt, so I suppose
it could be done pretty much any time, but it would be easier to do it at the
beginning of the next meeting.

There are a lot of IRC clients, given that is has been around forever (1988).
Having a few weeks before the next meeting will give people time to get a
client and attempt connecting. I will add a wiki item that has the details,
although it is probably already in there somewhere, maybe in multiple places.
This will be linked on the main page.

I notice that the earlier message gave the address as "oftc.net". It's
actually irc.oftc.net, port 6667 (or 6697 for SSL). There are also
alternative ports listed on the website. There's a web client on there
too (though a proper IRC client usually provides the best experience).

I'd prefer an open-source solution too.

I've used irc before and have no objection but one -- hexchat is not letting
me connect.

Is there a simple interface somewhere to an IRC client? Whatever the complaints
about Slack, they've done a reasonable job of the interface.

I agree with this.

Also, I did not have time to arrange anything.

I'd be open to joining irc for an AGM.

In any case, how would authentication work, to ensure an honest vote?

I'd suggest that part of the problem is the:

Slack is a proprietary instant messaging platform developed by Slack

Just saw this message. Would have joined earlier if I had seen it. And if the
link worked then. When I try the link it does not go anywhere. That is it let’s
me open my slack app but just dumps me into one of my existing channels or work
groups or whatever they call it.

Was this supposed to be just a temporary link?

Alas we were unable to get a quorum tonight.

Please keep an eye out for future announcements, for we will need to
have an AGM at some point.

Thank you to those who turned out.
