Re: [linux-dvb] WinTV-NOVA-T-500 Status
I don't know what can be the reason of your problems. As far as I know, the disconnects are somehow related to bad receiving quality, which cause the firmware on the card to block. I'm not sure, though. After two month experience with a Nova-T 500 I can say almost for sure that tuning to channels with bad reception quality will get you in trouble. I have hidden those channels in MythTV and get a lot less (close no none) problems. I had some channels which gave me good reception one day and bad the next, and guess which days my wife woke me up early in the morning to reload the drivers :D /D ___ linux-dvb mailing list linux-dvb@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/linux-dvb

I can't remember when the last disconnect happened, but I think there was also on a bad weather condition. Right now my system is working like a charm with the Nova-T 500. However, some people (including me) reports more freqüent disconnects when EIT scanning is enabled in MythTV. My solution to this was to write a Python script that allos me to externally enable / disable EIT scanning for all the channels on the database. I use this script to enable EIT scanning only from 9:00 to 12:00 everyday (I have set up a daily wakeup period for this in MythTV) and leave it disabled otherwise. This way the EIT scanning is active only on a time period when I'm mostly not at home (thus not using the computer) and disabled for the rest of the day, thus preventing problems between EIT scanning and recording / LiveTV. If anyone is interested in the script just let me know (it's pretty simple, thought). I'm running Gentoo 64 bits, kernel 2.6.23-r3 (lastest) and HG drivers (obtained last week, when I fully reinstalled the system). Previously I was using Sabayon 32 bits, same kernel, etc... and everything was also ok. I still suffer very ocasional disconnects, but they are really rare. I also sometimes get I2C errors in dmesg, but they don't seem to cause any issues. I don't know what can be the reason of your problems. As far as I know, the disconnects are somehow related to bad receiving quality, which cause the firmware on the card to block. I'm not sure, though.
