Installfest: Reminder!
Hello. Besides being a reply to an email, I wanted to remind you all to come to the installfest. I would like to visit your installfest this friday, but have no idea about exact place and time. This friday (15th), Dizengoff Center, 9:00-14:00, In front of the burgler king. I didn't see any information in the list since the announsment about postponing. So you did see an announcement. Maybe you should have some kind of official add for the people that don't have personal contacts with the list's keepers. We have advertised in many places, and we expect a high number of people to come. Or we are not wanted ? Ofcourse you are very wanted. The reason we hold installfests is that people who don't have techie friends can install linux. :-) I Hope I'll see you there, Yoni. :-) -- The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck, is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners... = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Modem's and video cards for linux
i am planning on buying a new computer soon, which is supposed to run mainly on linux (Debian). The problem is, no sales person seems to know what hardware is windows dependent and what not. As far as i know the main problem is with modems and video cards. How can i recognise one that will work under linux. Any recomendations for video and modems? The only modem they could offer me which is shure to work is US robotics which is a bit expensive. The video card i was offered (since I static image handling mainly, and not video), is ATI xpert 8 meg AGP, How is it for linux? Also, should there be any problem with sound cards, if so, how do I recognise one that will work. (I wasn't shure if the fact that designed for windows doesn't appear on the box is enough) Thanx [EMAIL PROTECTED] = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

ATIs are pretty well supported. Just make sure you have a fairly recent X server, because some chipsetes (RagePro specifically) need that. My experience with ATIs are that they are good and inexpensive, although they don't deliver the ultimate gaming experience. Phil Brutsche wrote: The video card i was offered (since I static image handling mainly, and not video), is ATI xpert 8 meg AGP, How is it for linux? I've heard it works, but I haven't a clue about how well it works. It does, and does it very well. I dont know about ATI's support etc' but the XFree X-server for Xpert, Mach64 chipset (I heared there are newer chipsets today(?)), is, on my experience, stable. (my rpm X-Server: XFree86-Mach64-3.3.3.1-52) Also, should there be any problem with sound cards, if so, how do I recognise one that will work. Almost all will - try to avoid the Sound Blaster Live, and you should be OK. Be careful! there are local cards here which are using unsupported chipsets (currently) like Aurel Vortex A3D - on Octav sound cards (some of Octav cards, at least, use it). About Creative - SB16, 64 and I'm almost sure that SB128 too, will all perform the necessary beeps (and ofcourse more than that - like MP3 playing). There are other very chip no-name cards in our market that I would have checked carefully before buying. = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It is my opinion that it did not get the necessary publication, at least not on this forum. Like the one who sent the previous post I thought that it was canceled. Hello.
