Announcement: The Gamla RAD Application server

2000-05-24 Thread Shlomi Fish

I started a project called "Gamla", which intends to develop a RAD and a
WWW application server based on perl. If you'd like to join the discussion
on it, you should go to this page:

http://www.egroups.com/group/gamla-devel

Right now it has an operating mailing-list, and the home-site is going to
be up soon.

Regards,

Shlomi Fish

[OT]:Book Review

2000-05-24 Thread Yosi

Hi,

I recently found out about the book "Building Linux and Openbsd
Firewalls" by Wes Sonnenreich, Tom Yates (ISBN 0471353663). Did anyone
read or read a review about it? And speaking of OpenBSD, do you know
of any other good books that teach how to build firewalls on OpenBSD?

TIA,
Yosi

ahh... that explains the mystery invitation I got the other day :-)

you mean nobody started such a project before?

people think narrow... http://www.opensales.org/
this company just got $10mil from VCs, it's a GPLed eCommerce server in
perl. why narrow on shopping carts and auctions when you can create an
application server that potentially does way more? I don't get it.

Good luck, Shlomi! I'll follow and try to help if it isn't too much
above me...

kernel advances

2000-05-24 Thread Ira Abramov

2.3.99-pre9 has been seen around for a few days now, -pre10 is almost
here, and tonight kernel.org put a README in the new 2.4
directory... here it comes!

--
No.

It doesn't really exist yet.

But I'll be gone for three weeks, and in the meantime there's a
"2.4.0-test1" kernel here. It's not a real 2.4.0 release, but we should
be getting closer. There's going to be other test-kernels after this
one, and we'll find bugs. And bad behaviour. And wonderful features
which we'll document some day.

Alan Cox is most likely to maintain a "2.4.0-ac" series while I'm gone.
Not the same thing as 2.4.0 either, but by testing these test-kernels
out and giving feedback, we'll get to that some day.

Have fun. And let's see how many people find this without it even being
announced ;)

Linus forgets that each time he uploads something, it triggers all the
mirrors to pull RSYNC immediately. ftp.iglu.org.il gets it within 5-10
minutes and Emails me when done :-)

Re: Needed: new cellcom SMS script

2000-05-24 Thread Constantin Eizner

Why not to add Pelephone Support.
the format of SMS for pelephone is:

9725[01][EMAIL PROTECTED]
for example: I want to send SM to 051-123123
I have to send message [EMAIL PROTECTED]

That's all.

n.b. the old site used to say that it was limited to 20 messages/day (per
username ofcourse). From my experience, there was no such limit.

Because the test was done with a piece of JavaScript and cookies - and
if you use a something like the perl script, you get around the script
 ;)
