mipsel linux headers -- where?!

2002-05-10 Thread miki . shapiro

Hi people

I got this hublike appliance-thingie with a flash thingamabob and a
stripped down Redhat 6.2 for Little Endian MIPS, and a MIPS Texas
Instruments CPU.
Amazing, but it actually works. Whoever installed it didn't bother putting
either headers or libraries on it.

Anyone have a clue where can I download RH's headers/libs for this platform
and OS version?

I can't make me a cross-compiler without them :-(((

Thanks!

Where is the HE-il dict ?

2002-05-10 Thread Eliran

Hello !

I have just downloaded the newest abiword (1.0) and it seems there is
a way to set your language to hebrew and so I tried, but abiword keep
telling me he can't find the he-IL dictionary.

I checked abisource.com both in the plugins and downloads sections
but there was nothing about he-IL ...

Did any of you ever tried it ?

Regards,
Eliran

The closest thing I know to an Israeli ispell or aspell dictionary is:

  http://ivrix.org.il/projects/spell-checker/

(it has been stalled for a long time now, and it is long way from being
usable)

Other than that: nothing that I know. Sorry.

Re: Where is the HE-il dict ?

2002-05-10 Thread Diego Iastrubni

your locale is set to he_IL, and abiword tries to find an
/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts/he_il dir which contains a list of iso fonts.
I have written a hebrew faq which desicribes how to dos this get it at:
http://dgi_il.tripod.com/linux/hebrew-howto.tar.gz, it is hebrew html and
some images. Someone here on the list once said that he will write an howto
for that? where is it?

Hope this is the problem.

No it is not it. I created a dir /usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts/he_il with the hebrew fonts
I got from windows and it still show me the message that he is unable to load the
dictionary for th he_IL language...

Been there. Done that.
You can use sendsms from http://ilsendsms.sf.net/ to send the message. I
have written an email parser for mksms to do just that, but it's not ready
for distribution. Please contact me privately for more help in doing this.

Compiling a single kernel module

2002-05-10 Thread Amir Sela

Hey list.
Is there a way, to compile a single module out of the kernel source
tree, without fiddling about manually with the Makefiles and such ?
I wanted to compile ntfs.c(as a loadable module, of course), and I'm
not very well versed in the Makefile structure of the entire kernel
tree.
Thanks,
Amir

Re: Compiling a single kernel module

2002-05-10 Thread Omer Zak

Basically, you have to have already compiled the entire kernel sometime in
the past, and then to be using the compiled kernel on your machine.

Then, to compile a module, all you need is to touch one of its
dependencies, and re-do make on the entire kernel. In principle, only the
desired module will be re-compiled.

If you didn't already compile the entire kernel, then going this way will
be simpler than fiddling with the makefiles, ensuring that all kinds of
obscure dependencies exist and are up-to-date, and that the compiled
module will be compatible with the version of the kernel, which runs on
the machine.

How to compile the kernel - RTFM (there is a README file in
/usr/src/linux-* directory - at least there used to be one in the 2.0.*
and 2.2.* series).

M$ $oftware audit pushes schools toward Linux

2002-05-10 Thread Omer Zak

http://www.seul.org/edu/acpe2002.html speaks about the events after
schools districts in Oregon and Washington received software audit demands
from Microsoft. This caused sudden need for a lot of Linux support.

I wonder whether there is enough Linux support in Israel to help Israeli
schools and businesses migrate to Linux at the right time (seamless Hebrew
support is just around the corner)?
