Re: Semi-forced upgrade of browser - problematic when it is Iceweasel
Hi Omer, Well, for home use you can use testing instead of stable to get more updated software. In that case, you might want to follow the security team's policy about testing. Firefox/iceweasel 3.6 won't enter unstable in the near future, as this requires an update for xul, which is also used by thunerbird/icedove. The maintainer said he is focused on 3.5.8 for the next stable. Re: Semi-forced upgrade of browser - problematic when it is Iceweasel
Youtube cuts off support for non HTML-5? that will take ages, since IE7 nor IE8 really supports well HTML-5. HTML-5 in Firefox will not be really used since Google encodes video with H.264, not with Ogg. In short, I hardly see Youtube cuts of support for non HTML5 browsers for at least a year, two years. Semi-forced upgrade of browser - problematic when it is Iceweasel
Today when I visited http://www.youtube.com/, I was greeted by a message that my browser will be unsupported soon, and my browser was the current Iceweasel 3 version from Debian Lenny. The earliest Firefox version to be supported is Firefox 3.6. I quickly browsed http://backports.org/dokuwiki/doku.php (the Debian Backports), and found that Firefox 3.5.6 was backported to Debian Lenny as Iceweasel 3.5.6. So I installed it to ease future upgrade to Iceweasel 3.6 once it is available. So now I hope that someone will backport and create Iceweasel 3.6 before YouTube cuts off all support for non-HTML5-compliant browsers. Otherwise, I may have to install Firefox 3.6 not as a Debian package. --- Omer P.S.: the upgrade is only semi-forced because YouTube is a Nice To Have rather than Essential. -- Philip Machanick: "caution: if you write code like this, immediately after you are fired the person assigned to maintaining your code after you leave will resign" My own blog is at http://www.zak.co.il/tddpirate/ My opinions, as expressed in this E-mail message, are mine alone. Low cost for outgoing calls. (subsidized by incoming calls) 2a. You can add as little as (around) 25 NIS at a time. 3. Israeli servers (probably BBL) 4. DID is for a cellular number, cost a lot of money to call. :-( 3. Web site is mostly IE only. Without IE you can't get customer support. You can't add money with FireFox. 4. Re: OT: Bezek via netvision
Hi, I'm using this service. If your infrastructure (HOT/ADSL) is reliable, it works pretty reliably as well. They give you the AudioCodes MP202 adapter, as someone has already mentioned. One thing to note is that they put this adapter in front of your PC / router (i.e. it connects to the modem, and the router connects to it), and it takes your public IP to itself and performs NAT. They don't give you the password for the administrator account on the device so basically you lose your public IP, for what it's worth. This is absolutely ludicrous, to me. They set it up in DMZ mode so that incoming connections are forwarded to your router / PC, but if your internal IP changes for some reason, you need to bug them to reconfigure their box. If you have anything at all that requires a public IP anyway (dynamic DNS?), you're out of luck. Another thing is that they set up traffic shaping on this box so that the VOIP calls are not affected by heavy traffic, and the speed degradation is quite noticeable. Bottom line, the calls are cheap, but it screws with your Internet connection in various ways, and it's basically only as reliable as your connection -- and let me tell you that you don't realize how unreliable Internet infrastructure is here until you put your phone on it. If I were offered this deal now I wouldn't go for it. --Alex - Original Message From: Valery Reznic To: linux-il.
