chat/pppd problems

2000-04-02 Thread Gaal Yahas

Hello.

[I wrote about this a while ago, but didn't get a response. This
time the symptom is similar but slightly different.]

When attempting to dial my ISP with a chat script, I get:

Apr 2 21:54:01 fortinbras chat[360]: %% Low on memory; try again later^M

right after the modem's CONNECT, and the connection fails. This is
shortly after the system is started.

Top of 'top':

  9:54pm up 6 min, 2 users, load average: 0.06, 0.04, 0.00
29 processes: 28 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.3% user, 0.9% system, 0.0% nice, 98.7% idle
Mem: 63360K av, 24308K used, 39052K free, 10160K shrd, 1880K buff
Swap: 154684K av, 0K used, 154684K free 16408K cached

kernel: 2.2.1 (yeah, I know.)
pppd: "pppd version 2.3 patch level 5"

Pentium 120MHz/64MB

Modem is an internal USR Sportster 28.8 .

[system info snipped]

Uh, it looks like a response from your ISP's modem router.
Doesn't seem like there is anything wrong with your end,
did you try starting minicom, connecting, and then starting
pppd manually?
