Re: download question

1999-10-18 Thread Alex Dubrovsky

check out http://kde.tdyc.com
it's the official kde packaging project and they surely have it on their
list...
But be advised - caitoo doesn't support ftp proxy yet and has experemental
support for http proxy Kget (supposedly an older version of caitoo) did
support it , but was much less stable...
Cheers

Run a search on freshmeat - that's where I got these two.
Just search for "X Download Manager" and "caitoo".

1999-10-16 Thread Stanislav Malyshev a.k.a Frodo

IA If you're looking for GUI utilities, I can recommend two:
IA caitoo - for the KDE environment.
IA and "X Download Manager" AKA 'nt' - for the GNOME environment.

I use the last one and I may say it's good. It also supports DnD for those
who love it. And the author is very responcible to wishes and corrections.
It also looks not bad (way cooler than GetRight - and twice so with good
theme ;)

Only it's "WebDownloader for X" aka nt... I think it's still the same
thing.

IA These two applicaitions implement a "getright" or "gozilla" like
IA functionality.

Not *all* functionality - it doesn't pick clicks form netscape. But I
doubt it is bad - last time I used this feauture it disabled clicks for
netscape at all... I could take no link and load no document. And it's
constant whining "are you sure you want to see this .php3 and not store it
as downloaded file" is annoying...

As a summary - this "nt" is good, take it. You find it at

Re: download question

1999-10-16 Thread Liran Zvibel

Quoting Micha Feigin [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Using netscape, as far as I know you can't continue the download. But, if
you can connect via ftp (If you can't get an ftp address directly, try
putting your mouse over the link and check the status bar at the bottom of
the screen, it should show what the link is pointing to, if its not a cgi
script it should give you an ftp address), you can connect from an ftp
program (I prefer lftp, but most of them will do it, you can just write
ftp ... and it should connect). then use get to get the file, and if your
cut off you can continue the download using reget. If you use lftp, don't
use pget for downloads (it is faster if the link is bad because it opens
several conections) because reget won't continue the download properly. I
never tried to start downloading through netscape, and then continue the
donload with reget, so i can't say if it will work.

The easiest way to do it (using Netscape) is with wget. When trying to
download a file I just type wget, then right-click on the file and copy the
link, and then paste it to the xterm.

If you want to continue the download just use -c. This is the fastest way, no
need to authenticate yourself and get to the directory, and also works with
http.
