Re: [SLL] hardware donations
Just wanted to add for the record / archive: Someone here had suggested http://www.scn.org/scna/pcdonate.html The site seems a little dead so I emailed them them last week. They didn't respond to my email until this week. So, they missed the boat this time, but they say they're still accepting computer donations. I don't know the details, but I'll consider them as an option worth investigating next time I have donations. -- Francois Caen

When it will open and contact information would be nice. I'm putting together a list of equipment and supplies accumulated over 30 years as a home/friend/community builder (non-commercial) and would like to find friendly homes for this stuff. But I'm not gonna drive all the way to Portland to donate 6 PCs, that would be silly. So in the meanwhile, the only organization that seems to be functioning is Interconnection. A recycled PC with Windows going to poor people who need it is still better than e-waste in a landfill. -- Francois Caen

This is a major reason why we are starting a Free Geek here in Seattle, to provide a similar function (recycle/reuse) but also promote Linux and open-source. Thank you all for your suggestions. In the end, I went with http://www.computers.interconnection.org They're semi-local for me (N Seattle), seem well established, have a real facility open 6 days a week, took everything I had with no questions and gave me a tax receipt. Thanks go to Bill Wright for pointing me to them. -- Francois Caen
