Dosemu

2004-03-18 Thread John Fordham
Hi,
I'm hoping that you can provide me with a little advice.

I have installed DOSEMU on my Linux PC. What I would like to do is run

djgpp

within the Dosemu environment. The djgpp website implies that there are no
problems associated. I have downloaded and installed djgpp. However, it
appears that I need a c:\dos directory in Dosemu for it to run but I do
not have this. Can you suggest a way for installing ?

Many thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Regards
John Fordham

floppy error

2004-03-18 Thread Vedran Vucic
Dear colleague,

I have installed dosemu-1.2.0-1.i386.rpm on my RH 8.0 machine. I use it for
bookkeeping program that is written for DOS.

I have one very strange problem with floppy drive while running dosemu.
Actually, it happens that when trying to read from floppy while in dosemu
prompt c:\ it shows on screen the following error:

Error reading from drive a: DOS area: sector not found
(A)bort, (I)gnore, (R)etry, (F)ail?
whenI press Abort
it prompts with:
out of memory error

It is significant that it actually have not tried to communicate with floppy
which normally works under Linux.
Do you have any idea how I can solve this problem.?

Thanks,

Vedran Vucic

How to change Dosemu files lock scheme?

2004-03-18 Thread Flávio Eler de Melo
Anyone has an idea of where in Dosemu sources I can find the section
concerning files lock scheme?

I´ve got a trouble with files lock scheme in Dosemu. I have a Clipper
database served by a Slackware NFS server. When I access this database from
two different remote clients running a Clipper application under FreeDos
with Dosemu, a certain record inserted in the database by one client is
overwritten by another record inserted by the other one.
I figured out by means of a friend advice that this is a problem of the file
lock scheme, namely: the Dosemu file lock process is based upon an Heuristic
method so that one Clipper Application client running under an instance of
Dosemu does not detects that another Dosemu is already locking a file via
LAN for recording some data.

Thank you very much

Flávio

Re: Dosemu - djgpp

2004-03-18 Thread Flávio Eler de Melo
Hi John,

First of all ... what version of Dosemu have you installed?
I´m used to the Dosemu 1.2.0 running the latest FreeDos version.

If this is your case ... try to set in /etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf the following
environment variable:

$_hdimage=/usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos/

or

$_hdimage=/etc/dosemu/drives/c

(this later one is a symbolic link which points to
/usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos)

Then just create a directory named dos under
/usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos as following:

# mkdir /usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos/dos

With these two proceedings you´ll set up the linux directory
which is mapped by Dosemu as a DOS unit. And inside it you will create a
directory named dos which will appear to be C:\dos inside Dosemu
environment.

If you prefer you may create this directory inside dosemu:
just run dosemu and in Dosemu command prompt run mkdir dos.

All you have to do to install djgpp is copy its binaries (.exe) and
required files to run it or its installation packages inside any directory
created in the path /usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos/.

Bye

Flávio Eler de Melo

Re: floppy error

2004-03-18 Thread Kevin Noseworthy - Specialty Software
The out of memory error is likely a red herring. My floppy works
fine and I get the same error if I try to access it without a floppy in
the drive. I would suggest you try copy files to your floppy from
linux first.

mfs.c, in src/dosext/mfs, lock_file_region() and share().

Problem is that DOS has 5 lock types whereas Linux only has 2 -- that's
why we have to use heuristics.

Samba can on the other hand adminstrate all client accesses because it's a
server but a dosemu file server (serving all dosemus) does not exist
simply because it's never been an itch to really scratch for the
developers (I tried to improve a bit for 1.2.0 fixing things that were
even problematic with just one dosemu running, but gave up after a while).

You can see how files are locked using lsof.
