Sounds a bit like what I was experiencing in:

So it might be worth trying a u-boot with the fix applied:
http://lists.denx.de/pipermail/u-boot/2015-March/209064.html
(or manually use mw.l as shown in the commit log to experiment)

 Same problem here.
Seems to be not only cubietruck relate (see
 http://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg374256.html for example).
After setting linkspeed to 100mbit no more issues (to be confirmed in the
 next few days ;-)

Since I have my Cubietruck, be it with 3.4 kernels or with mainline

The symptoms are stalling connections (usually SSH connections to the
Cubietruck) that have nearly no chance at recovering.

When I tell GMAC to only advertise up to 100Mbps speed the SSH
sessions do no show above symptoms anymore.

A thread seen on LKML and ARM/NetDev that might also point to the
cause of this trouble:
  stmmac: potential circular locking dependency

If it's important, my setup is:

   100Mbps1Gbps
 Laptop --- Switch - Cubietruck

Any idea what the cause might be and how to fix it?

When running wireshark on the laptop there is only silence when the
SSH session is stalled. Just prior to stalling Wireshark mentions
one missed packet (previous segment not captured) and no more packets
 after this.

I've not yet had the opportunity to perform a tcpdump capture on the
 Cubietruck side (not installed yet).
