  New title animation text explosion

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:

Bug description:
I write some python script to get a exploding text from a standard

GtkScale (for example, scale for the volume of a sequence) seem to be

More important, these scales does nothing, I can't move these to the

In the terminal, I see errors like:

  /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/openshot/windows/SimpleGtkBuilderApp.py:32:

  Scan of filesystem on startup?

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Every time I start up OpenShot it seems to do a non-trivial scan of my
filesystem. I notice it because I have NTFS shares from another
server mounted on my desktop, and the first time I start OpenShot it
causes the disks on the server (in the same room) to spin-up. As this
is a costly operation (scanning network servers with spun-down drives
takes a few seconds!), I was wondering if it would be possible to not
do such an invasive scan every time the application starts.

Works great in fedora 16, didn't test with ubuntu (packagekit is in

It is only about 10 lines of codes (and so we can remove lots of

try catch, autolaunch of app when installed, transient windows, ...)

Let me know what you think !

2012-02-08 Thread moimael
Ok i have the exact same problem and i know why.

Recently, the open file dialog in gnome changed a bit, now, by defaut,
when you want to add a file, the recently used category is showed in the
open filedialog.

It's an issue because we want to retrieve the last used directory when
we open a file, and if we pick the file from the recently used files,
then the last used directory is not set, producing an error the next
time you wan't to add a file.

Just check this link : https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
devel/2011-November/034475.html

It seems that the packagekit api will be implemented on top of apt and
included by default for 12.04 ! It is a great news, so we don't need
packagekit dependency on ubuntu anymore !

[Linux-traipu] [Bug 879697] Re: Use a text-based project file format

some point ?

Title:
Use a text-based project file format

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
  Problem:
The .osp project files that openshot generates are a proprietary binary
format, which means that I absolutely have to use the OpenShot GUI to do all
the tasks I need to do.
Using a text editor to e.g. add 100 image files that fade into each other
every 5 seconds with 1.5 seconds transition time is not possible.

  Solution
Using a text-based (preferably XML-based) project file format.

  This has several advantages:
  - Manipulation from outside tools is possible easily
  - Can be repaired manually in case something went really wrong

Also, mass-adjusting settings with a text editor's search and replace feature
cannot be done.

  What I tried
I tried to export the project to .mlt, change all the settings with a text
editor and then open it again. Unfortunately, OpenShot imports that file as a
single file instead of an own project - so this way is not usable.

Happened to me on OpenShot 1.4.0, Ubuntu 11.04

slider, i don't know if it would be used a lot ?

Using tabs in python can lead to bugs which are very hard to find.
For a quick code analysis Cython (www.cython.org) can be used:

  for x in `find | grep py`; do echo ### $x:; cython $x;
  done

The above command line showed several problems in your code (Version 1.4.0).
With cython you can also improve the speed of time critical python code a lot.

If doing so, we can remove the melt command entry in the preferences

Title:
  Fade in/out glitches

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but now and again
(not all the time) my fades in and out glitch at the outer end: before
a fade in, the image or video appears momentarily (probably just for
one frame) then disappears, and the fade starts normally. Similarly at
the end, with the final frame flashing up full brightness.

It also seems to some extent to happen on audio - it's like OpenShot
realises a moment too late that it's not meant to be playing the
audio, or that a fade is meant to be happening.

Sometimes it doesn't happen, and sometimes it fixes itself...
unfortunately not on a 'quick' project I've been doing this morning!

Anyway. It's absolutely great work - I'm so impressed! Something as
good as this, and non-linear (I can't understand what you can even do
with linear editing!) is a joy to have!

  Ubuntu 8.04
  DEB 1.0.0

Again - great application. I've already done some stuff I'm really
  pleased with!

  Cheers,

  Mike

Version 1.0.0 on ubuntu 9.10 german

After following the hints to solve the mlt.py problem, i got it to
work from new ppa. When I cut my first video and imported H264 and
AVCH in 720p and fullhd, it crashed when trimming the AVCH fullhd

after this crash I get following error at every start. Also

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.

(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

Many thanks for your great work - it looks pretty impressive!

Suggestion/Wishlist KenBurns effect in Add to timeline option

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

One of the cutests effect for making still-images presentations is the Ken
Burns effect.

If I remember correctly, you can simulate it in Openshot with key
  frames.

If would be very nice to add it directly as an effect, and allow to
apply it directly in the Add To Timeline option, this way you could:

  - Import a folder of JPG images to the project.
  - Select all in the project files view.
  - Right Button - Add To Timeline - N seconds - Random Ken Burns Effect
  - Profit!
  - If you want to modify any of the random kenburns (because you prefer a
given zoom or pan in a concrete image) - right click in the image - effect
properties - change kenburns effect properties.

I currently use images + random transitions, but some photo
presentations would be better with ken burns and openshot doesn't seem
to allow to use that effect easily.

   Please, add this effect :-)

   Thanks!

PS: Very happy anyway with Openshot, it's the first time in 15 years
under Linux that I can edit my videos in my fav. O.S.

Title:
Suggestion: collapse clips to fill gaps and automove clips to insert
  new

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

   Hi.

This is not a bug, it's a suggestion, but I don't know how to
classify it as wishlist / suggestion.

The main problem in OpenShot is removing and adding new clips in the
beginning/middle of the timeline when your project has grown, as you
end moving manually all clips or counting duration to use the Shift
clips tool to move them with offset.

  1. REMOVING CLIPS:

Currently I check clip properties, write down in a paper the
Duration, and use the Shift Clips feature with -duration (negative
value) to move all clips back in time and fill the gap, but it would
be very nice to have the option to autocollapse clips to fill gaps:

  [CLIP1].[CLIP2][CLIP3].[CLIP4]

  (You click in AUTOCOLLAPSE)

  [CLIP1][CLIP2][CLIP3][CLIP4]

This way you can happily remove clips and rearrange the timeline
automatically. If you need to insert a new clip,

  2.- ADDING CLIPS:

Currently I check the new clip properties, write down in a paper the
Duration, and use the Move Clips feature with +duration to leave gap
for the clip, and then I move it.

It would be nice to have an option to add an item to the timeline
automatically moving all the clips in that point after or before it.

Besides those 2 suggestions, if you also correct the following bugs,
Openshot would be almost perfect, surely the best video editor
  available in Linux:

  3.- Fade In/Out Glitches Bug:
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/openshot/+bug/520941

  4.- Icons etc. disappearing
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/openshot/+bug/505578

   Please, keep the GOOD work.

A release adding / correcting the previous 4 features / bugs would be
  highly celebrated :-)

   Thanks!

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:

Bug description:
Lining up a number of png images with various durations (mostly around
2 seconds each, some shorter, some longer), all on the same track.
Intent is that one will come immediately after another, with no
transition effect. The preview shows them as I want them, lasting for
the same amount of time as I set in the timeline. But on export to
(apparently any) video format, the durations change. With theora and
DVD, the length of each image is shorter. With MP4/Youtube, the length
is longer. The new length does seem at least slightly proportional to
  the length in the timeline/preview.

  1.1.3 on Ubuntu 10.04, installed with apt-get.

EDIT: With further testing, this seems to be related to quality. The
lower the quality, the shorter each image's duration. Medium seems to
work about right, at least for MP4.

Title:
  RTL in OpenShot

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
On RTL languages (Arabic and Hebrew) the tracks list is shown in the right
side, so it looks broken.
I'm sure that this bug is not something in your code, but i guess this is the
best place to report about it.

using OpenShot (version 0.9.54) on Jaunty Jackalope.
