Re: kernel 2.4.10 blues
Well, i don't know diddly about devfs, so i have no clue how that impacts the situation. However, it sounds to me like you're either running an older version of modultils, or the executable bit on modprobe got turned off. FWIW, i've successfully built booted every kernel since 2.4.3. Some have turned out to be duds, but they did boot. Also, i'll note that running any 2.4.x kernel less than 2.2.12 is a very bad idea, as they have known root exploits. I'm currently running 2.4.12 2.4.13 on my boxes. --- Mike Andrew [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: After compiling succesfully I get the following (paraphrased) error message almost immediately on booting unable to exec /sbin/modrobe I have torn my hair out with this kernel release as it comes with devfs and resierfs auto enabled and a few other things. Re: hardware opinion needed
Take a look at the Adaptec 2906PCI about $50 or less, I have two of them living with 29160's. Uses the same aic7xxx driver. I'll take a guess, and assume that this is to attach the tape drive? Anyhoo, go with another Adaptec of some sort. AFAIK, they are all well supported, and have good performance. In fact, if this is actually for a tape drive, then you don't even need anything with high performance (U160 or U80). You might want to look for some older model controllers from Adaptec which will be relatively cheap. --- Douglas J Hunley [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have a system with an onboard SCSI AIC7xxx Ultra160 Wide adapter. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm planning to re-install Linux on an iMac 333. It currently has MacOS 8.6 and LinuxPPC 2000Q4 (or was it Q3?). Does anybody runs Linux on a PPC?? Which distro would you recommend (and why)??? Which distro would you *NOT* recommend (and why)??? I know of Debian, SuSE, LinuxPPC and YellowDog Linux. Is there another distro for PPC?? I've installed Single-Ended scsi adapters destined for Sun Microsystem hosts in a RedHat box and that was detected and configured with no fuss. I'm partial to AdvanSys adapters but haven't used them in awhile. Also Tekram seems to make a good product. ___ Linux-users mailing list Archives, Digests, etc at http://linux.nf/mailman/listinfo/linux-users

dga support
I need dga support for vmware plus a tv card. I was unable to get it in vmware as it told me that it was unavailable, I thought with my setup it was there. However I find that it needs to be included in XF86Config which it is not. So I found where it was supposed to be and what it looks like but not the syntax for activation. I copied this from another area:: # This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables # initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module. SubSection extmod #Option omit xfree86-dga EndSubSection Before I edit it and stuff up, is all I do unhash the option line and delete the word omit??
