Subject: [ILUG-BOM] Open source GPL use by government

 Check this post on Slashdot.

This PDF article, written by Kenneth Brown of ADTI,
attempts to explain that Open source GPL use by
government agencies could easily become a nation
security concern. Government use of software in the
 public domain is exceptionally risky.

2002-06-11 Thread Desai Ashish

Dear Luggers,
Hi…! I’ve some problems regarding FTP, Telnet ,ISDN
and Accessing mails in Mutt Mail client, which are
elaborated as under.
I’ve installed RH Linux 7.2 on a machine. That machine
is having the Local Area Network IP is = 192.168.0.1
Now from the machine having IP 192.168.0.2 I wants to
Telnet the Linux machine, but it shows me an error
“The remote host refused connection.” The same case is
there in FTP. So n e body suggest me step by step
configuration for accessing Telnet / FTP to Linux
machine from my Windows PC.…?
I m having mail account with VSNL. And I wants to
access my mails of VSNL POP3 account in to the Linux
Mail client like Mutt. So, how do I access it in
Mutt/Pine etc…..? Apart from there n e body have the
Idea to configure multiple POP3 as well as multiple
SMTP servers like wat my friends were doing in
MS-Outlook Express. Is there any mail client which
allows the facility like MS-OE….?
My friend is installed RH Linux 7.2 just last week. He
is having ISDN connection for Internet as an
alternative to his Cable Internet. So, how can he b
able to configure his ISDN Connection on Linux
system….? Plz. Suggest step by step configuration.
Is thr n e body who can burn the CDs of FreeBSD for
me…? I m also ready to pay the cost of the CDs. So,
plz. Contact me Off the List for that matter.
Lots of thanx to all Lugger Friends.
Happy Linuxing.

The article says that GPLed software is risky, but BSD style and public
domain software is perfectly fine.

In other words, open source software is perfectly safe, but requiring
that anyone who makes changes and publishes binaries with those changes
also make the changed source available, that is not safe.

Explain how this makes sense?
