Re: [pfSense] 2.2.6 HA to 2.3 Upgrade Advice

2016-05-11 Thread Mike Montgomery
Thanks, I am now update to date. Guess I was just trying to over
complicate things, everything upgraded without any quirks at all.

[pfSense] 2.2.6 HA to 2.3 Upgrade Advice

2016-05-10 Thread Mike Montgomery
I have two servers, setup in high availability that are currently running
2.2.6. I have been running 2.3 at home and my test servers and am ready to
upgrade the office to 2.3 as well. I have been reading several upgrade
guides, as to which one to upgrade first, but would like to see if anyone
has upgraded a HA setup yet successfully?

What I am looking at doing, is disable carp, and upgrade the master after I
make backups, and take a snapshot of the machines to roll back to if needed
(they are vm's). Then once everything is upgraded on master, allow carp to
switch back, then upgrade secondary.

Should this work? Going from 2.2.6 to 2.3, if I do the master first, do I
need to disable the sync from master until the secondary is upgraded as
well? Have not seen much specified for 2.3, only 2.1 to 2.2 upgrades.

Thanks

Re: [pfSense] pfSense on vmware ESXi 6.0

2016-04-15 Thread Mike Montgomery
I'm not positive, but I was always under the impression to only use the VX
net cards for Windows OS, I have always used the e1000 for Linux/pfsense.
Run several firewalls in esxi 5.1 and never any issues. Never needed tweak
anything at all, except for when I tried to do carp.

[pfSense] 32bit to 64bit load config?

2014-10-16 Thread Mike Montgomery
Good morning, I have a Pfsense 32bit running currently on a vmware host and
am going to create a new one, but 64bit and using the 64bit install. If I
replicate the hardware on the vm, except I'm going to add more ram and
cpu's to the host, is there any config issues to restore the 32bit backup
to a 64bit install? Also, this machine is also currently running 2.0.2,
can I restore the config to the latest, or should I install the new as
2.0.2, then upgrade after restored? Thanks

[pfSense] Suggestions for embedded hardware

2011-12-26 Thread Mike Montgomery
Hello all, I have been running pfsense at home on an old pc now for some
time and loving it. I run several m0n0wall soekris devices at work, but am
now looking for a low end pfsense capable device, that as of right now, I
am only wanting to use for wirecaptures on my wireless tower sites. Does
anyone have suggestions? And do they need hard drives, or could I use flash
of some sort? Thanks
