Re: [WSG] IE 7 beta 2 and IE6 Standalone

2006-04-27 Thread Nick Cowie
TeeI have been running IE7 beta 2 and IE6 Standalone on  XP SP2  AMD  PC without a problem. IE7 beta 2 worked like a charm and I only used  IE6 (along with IE4, IE5 and IE5.5) for site testing. So I have not pushed IE6 too hard, just for testing sites locally and a couple of sites. I will check the print menu when I get back home.
I had originally tried the IE7 standalone, but that kept crashing, even the batch file version. It is possible to run multiple versions of IE at the same time, I have done it, problem is remembering which one is which when you have four instances running.

Hi Tee,IE6 and IE7 cannot run on the same machine at the same time.  (unlike say Opera) That being said you can get around it to some degree with the following. URL:
http://weblogs.asp.net/jgalloway/archive/2005/12/28/434132.aspxEssentially you...Download the latest beta copyRight click on the download and select extract to... (location on your HD) with your favourite compression program (winzip, winrar etc...)
Copy the batch file mentioned here: http://weblogs.asp.net/jgalloway/archive/2005/12/28/434132.aspx and place this in the directory where you extracted IE7 to.
Run IE7 from that batch file only.Whilst this process does appear to work quiet well for testing say a single site at time, I have been unable to get it (IE7beta2) to work in a fully tabbed mode (this could just be a fault with my PC).  Also do not have IE6 open, or try and open it while IE7 is active.
One thing I would recommend is to create a system restore point so if things go wrong you can easily undo.Hope this helps.Stephen

[WSG] IE 7 beta 2 and IE6 Standalone

2006-04-27 Thread 郑玉萍(Tee G. Peng)
Greetings,

Anybody installed IE7 beta 2 and IE6 Standalone?

I am having problem runing IE6 standalone, for instance, on every page
I click, it gives me error message; Some menu functions such as File >
Page Setup, Print, Print Preview, Properties are not working; under
the Help menu, except "about internet explorer", the rest give me
error message with send report option. In the "about internet
explorer", the logo of IE 6 stays intact but the rest of the info
obviously belong to IE7.

The IE 6 standalone from evolt.org is for SP1, my XP is SP2, so I am
supecting they are not compatible. Problem is, I am running the XP
from Parallels Workstation in Intel Mac, and because PW is still a
beta version, therefor I don't know if it's causing problem or not.

thanks!
tee
