Thanks!  I did google. Alas, couldn't even get the spelling correct.  
I googled 'quirkmode' (wait! maybe I typed quickmode) and the result  
I found was quite different from the above page.

Choosing a doctype in order to trigger your choice of rendering mode is
more complicated than that. Read up about Mozilla's DOCTYPE sniffing:

AFAIK, most times you put Gecko in standards mode, you do the same with
other browsers as well.
