I have a neighbourhood meeting Wednesday unfortunately but why don’t you get
Matt and Julian to talk about what they’ve been doing replacing Android with

Re: [Liverpool] Talk for next meet

2022-04-26 Thread Alex Lennon via Liverpool
Hi all,

I’ve not managed to get over to LivLUG for ages although I very much want to.

I have a thing I’ve been doing with GitHub actions and workflows to try to
automate OpenSource testing of PRs and stuff like that.

It’s very much me scratching an itch and trying to find answers to make
maintenance easier, and I’d love to show you what I’ve been up to and see what
you think could be improved.

It’s a bit boring though as it’s cloud CI so no flashy lights but let me know
路‍♀️

Cheers all!

Alex has been busily working on it and I am currently working on an
official website and documentation. It might be ready by Wednesday, it
might not, let's find out.

The project will all be 100% free and open for anyone to use because
that's how we do things... and also because that's how it should be ;)

Thanks Dan. It's all first cut stuff so there are bound to be mistakes.
But it works for us! We'd love you to have a go and let us know what
needs improving.

Thanks & see you Wednesday!

Hi Alex,

Kdenlive is good but the GPU rendering isn't sorted yet (same for
Shotcut) so it can be slow to render videos. It all depends on what
your doing.

Lightworks video editor is not open source but there is a free version
(720p)

If its just video (no sound - your under water?) you might want to try
Natron https://natrongithub.github.io/

Its specifically designed for Hollywood level video composition.

There are also many plug-ins, a quick search I came up with
https://github.com/NatronVFX/natron-plugins

Checkout
https://opensource.com/article/18/4/new-state-video-editing-linux for
some Linux based video editing info

For Photographic work then Darktable is excellent (though for best
results, RAW image format)
Have a look at https://opensource.com/alternatives/adobe-lightroom and
'Keifer Hunniford Photography' or Shane Milton on youtube

cheers,
Tom Ormiston

Thanks Tom :) There are noises from my breathing but not terribly
interesting :) I might want to add an audio track I suppose.

Will take a look - thanks!

Cheers,

Alex

[Liverpool] Advice on colour correcting scuba diving images and videos

2018-08-27 Thread Alex Lennon via Liverpool

Hi all,

Apologies for the cross-post but I thought the LivLug group would likely
have some insights here too ...

I have a number of pictures and videos I've taken on dives at a depth of
10m-20m. As you'll know you lose components of the visible light
spectrum as you go deeper underwater, initially red etc.

There are various strategies to improve the pictures you take underwater
(strobe lighting, white balance correction) and there is post-processing
that can be done to improve the images.

I've tried all sorts of tools but it very quickly seems to get
complicated and I can't seem to crack it.

KDenLive looks good (opensource) and a friend recommended DaVinci
Resolve which also looks interesting.

Does anybody have the time and interest to give me some advice on how to
drive a tool to improve the colour balance of my media?

Thanks!

Alex

Hello all,

Forgive the very late email but you must be fairly used to it by
now. We're about as efficient as a privatised national rail

I think you're missing the point. Privatisation is *always* more
efficient. If it appears to be less efficient then clearly we need to
change the way we calculate efficiencies

The next meeting is tomorrow night at the usual time, 7pm
onwards. Neil Bothwick is going to be telling us a bit about
MQTT, the lightweight messaging protocol. More details, including
directions and so on, can be seen on the full blog post -
http://www.livlug.org.uk/2018/06/livlug-june-2018-meeting/

Don't forget we now meet at the new DoES Liverpool location in
Kempston Street. So if you haven't been there yet look it up on
the link above and don't go to Hannover St!!

Hope to see many of you there, best wishes,

Dan

Thanks Adrian, I was going to use a Pi but that might be easier.

[Liverpool] Talking about upcoming non-livlug events on the list

2018-03-31 Thread Alex Lennon via Liverpool

Hi all,

I hope you felt the Kx Systems joint event between IoT Liverpool and
LivLug was worthwhile.

We have an upcoming IoT Liverpool event at the new space - DoES
Liverpool @ The Tapestry.

I believe it is of interest to the LivLUG list but I do understand
nobody likes to feel spammed so if this shouldn't be on the list please
just tell me and it won't happen again.

In the meantime Please allow me to present Andy Stanford-Clark who
is coming up to our fair city to talk on "Innovation Begins at Home".

ref: www.meetup.com/iotliverpool

We'd love to see you there (and in fact I'm hoping to say "hi"
beforehand at the LivLug meet on the 4th). If interested please just
sign up at the above link.

The available space is quite a bit larger than DoES Dinky was so I am
hoping to reach out to invite newcomers, students, the Liverpool
eco-system etc.

If you have any ideas on people to speak with or places to flyer I would
be everlastingly grateful :)

Thanks!

Alex

Re: [Liverpool] Suggestion for talk on time series databases on 7th March

2018-01-26 Thread Alex Lennon via Liverpool

Neil, Dan et al

A meeting with a group with overlapping but not identical interests would
be most stimulating. Although I probably won't be able to make it so feel
free to ignore my opinion.

Great! Thanks for the positivity. I too feel it will have positive outcomes.

OK on that basis I'll progress a combined LivLug/IoTLiverpool meetup on
7th March at DoES Liverpool on "time series databases" with these guys.

I'll be in touch shortly to keep you updated as to where we are with it all.

Kind Regards,

Alex
