I'm a big fan of LTSP (run it at home), but based on your description of
what you want, sounds like Thinstation (thinstation.sourceforge.net) would
be more appropriate, since you are basically running a Metaframe session,
nothing else. You still (can) use a thin client, but you basically build an
image that gets downloaded via tftp, as you say, boots from RAM
image/disk... the local thin client runs X, and yes, you can even have it
run Firefox (though you can also include a Citrix client). I'm not sure
about using Firefox with only 64 meg RAM though, which is why I think you
should look at the Citrix client running on Thinstation - there is no login
per se, but you can configure each thin client to automatically start the
Citrix session.

Good luck,
Greg

Hi,

I need to run 60-100 kiosks (firefox on xfce or icewm) but have only one
server available to push tftpd etc. The browsers will then connect to a
Citrix Metaframe so the processing power of the server is not material
in that sense.

[snip]

I would be happy to serve a "thick" client so that each workstation
essentially runs a RAM image instead of a hard disk image if that is the
required alternative but where can I find information about building the
image so that it will auto-boot in RAM (the local workstations have only
64Mb and can't be upgraded)?

Thanks in anticipation.
