Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] PCManFM 0.9.7 + libfm 0.1.12 RC1

Thanks,

I also had to mv pcmanfm2 to pcmanfm2_v0.95 and create a new soft link to
the new version over at /usr/local/bin/pcmanfm for it to launch,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'killing' version 0.95, but you could change
/usr/bin/pcmanfm (which is a soft-link to pcmanfm2 at the same folder) so
that it points to your newly compiled version. It shouldn't cause much
problem as long as you remember to change it back after you are done
 testing.

 Hi,

well, after a few set backs I've got pcmanfm v0.97 installed. Is there a

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Cleaning Lubuntu applications (part 1)

2010-06-01 Thread Edward Rapier

I could never get pyNeighborhood to work so I installed Nautilus instead to
connect to my Windows network. If the new pcmanfm can handle the task, then I
would be happy to remove pyNeighborhood. This was using the pyNeighborhood
that was installed by default with Lubuntu, I did not install the PPA version
you mentioned.

Subject: [Lubuntu-desktop] Cleaning Lubuntu applications (part 1)

 Hi,

I would like to discuss the removal of several applications :

 - parcelite
The main goal was to add a clipboard manager, because old pcmanfm didn't
 manage it well.

Now that pcmanfm2 is used, I would like to know if people experiment
problems with copy paste without parcelite. If you don't have any
problems, we could remove it from the meta-package.

 Also, parcelite is abandoned upstream
 (http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/?p=89), so don't expect improvement
 in maverick cycle.

 - pyNeighborhood
With pcmanfm now using gvfs, we have good support for mounting. I wonder
if we really need a GUI for managing mounts.

Also, It seems that the current version on 10.04 is broken, if you want
to test and add feedbacks, be sure to test the PPA version
 (https://launchpad.net/~pyneighborhood/+archive/stable)

If you think about other things to remove, feel free to add them in the
 discussion.

Please note that adding and replacing applications should be discuss in
 separate topics :)

 Julien Lavergne

[Lubuntu-desktop] Installing Lubuntu on software RAID

2010-06-01 Thread Federico Fanton
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to install Lubuntu but I can't find a way to configure software
RAID.. Should I do it by hand before running the installation?
(that is, sudo apt-get install mdadm, mdadm -A etc etc..)
Or is it better to avoid this completely (because it's untested or whatever)
and install a normal Ubuntu followed by LXDE?

Many thanks for your time, and Lubuntu too of course :)

The easist/safest way, is to use the Ubuntu alternative ISO to set up RAID
and install Ubuntu minimal. The enable the Lubuntu-Desktop PPA and
install lubuntu-desktop. This worked for me anyway :)

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Ubuntu Desktop] Required

2010-06-01 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi,

I guess this is more a question for Juliene, but one of things that has been
raised a few times on IRC is why lubuntu *insists *on having all the
packages that it does, for example you cannot remove Mplayer to free room up
and put an alternative on, nor xfburn if you wish brasserro. Whilst the list
of default packages is commendable, it does seem somewhat odd that none of
them may be removed without it taking out the whole of lubuntu.

The argument of 'more difficult to support' does not really stand, people
want to make their computer their own, the whole idea of *buntu is choice,
we can easily say that we cannot support xyz, but forcing people to have
applications on that they do not want seems odd.

Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [Ubuntu Desktop] Required

2010-06-01 Thread Jaeic Lee
If you are talking about why 'lubuntu-desktop' package would be removed when
one small part of its dependency is removed, you can choose to ignore it and
remove that package since it is only a meta-package that contains
(literally) nothing inside it. It won't hurt other programs.

Besides, the first thing that I did when I installed lubuntu in my netbook
was to remove xfburn, and my desktop works just as fine :)

Of course, if your package manager insists that other parts of
lubuntu-desktop to be removed as well, that's another story...

We already knew this long time ago. Last week we've contacted author
of deadbeef and some debian devs trying to solve this.
The latest version of deadbeef now includes a newer version of libdumb
whose license is more debian-friendly.
Now let's see what debian people think.
If this is still not acceptable, turning off libdumb while compiling
deadbeef is the solution.
This lib is optional and rarely used. It provides decoder for *.mod music only.
libdumb can be safely removed if the license issue cannot be handled.

Cheers
