[Lubuntu-desktop] Backports for 10.10 (Maverick) and 10.04 (Lucid)

2010-12-19 Thread Julien Lavergne
Hi,

If you are using the LXDE backport PPA [1], you will receive some
updates :) It contains all the changes done to LXDE components in Natty,
backported to Maverick and Lucid.

If you want to test new LXDE stuff from Natty, without upgrading all
your desktop to Natty (which not really recommends for a non-testing
configuration ATM), you can use this PPA.

This is also part of the longer support we will offer for 10.04 users.

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

[Lubuntu-desktop] Natty A1: Install hang at options screen; failure to boot clean install.

2010-12-19 Thread pip
Hello all.

I was having trouble getting beyond the options screen when trying to
install Natty a1 from a live CD. This was solved by setting acpi=off,
(F6 at options list) during install. This necessitates editing the grub
menu at boot adding acpi=off to the Linux line. To avoid editing at
every boot the etc/default/grub also needs to be edited: acpi=off in
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX= line. (Added between the quotes at the end of the
line).

Of course, this means no battery charge indicator on a laptop. (My
machine also required the power button to be pushed in order to shut
down properly).

I went back to 10.10 did a release upgrade, which went well. However
I could not boot into Lubuntu with the 2.6.37-10 kernel without setting
acpi=off again (as above). Booting the 2.6.35-23 kernel has solved all
of the issues I've mentioned (up to now).

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] New stuff in Natty (and some in Backports)

2010-12-19 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hiyas Julien,

is this for alpha2 of lubuntu 11.04? As I would need to grab the iso and
also update the wiki area at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing

Regards,

Phill.

 Hi,

I forgot to do a small review of what is new in Natty, visible for the
end-user, and specific to Lubuntu :

 lxrandr:
Save configuration in an autostart desktop file, so the settings can be
kept. (LP: #621689). It means that you can now save the configuration
made by lxrandr. We still need a real application to configure display,
but in the meantime it should be enough.

 lxappareance:
 New version available (0.5.0)
Add a tab for font configuration. (LP: #591426). You can now configure
 font directly in lxappareance.

 lxappearance-obconf:
The plugin for lxappareance to configure openbox directly in
 lxappareance.

 lxpanel:
Add configuration for desktop number for the pager plugin. It will
launch obconf to configure the number of desktops when you right-click
on the workspace applet. It works also with compiz and its settings
 manager.

 pcmanfm:
 New version available (0.9.8)
Fix fake transparency (LP: #566056). You should be able to set fake
transparency in lxpanel and lxterminal now.
Desktop icons are now movable (Closes: #535814) (LP: #644259).

All thoses changes are available in the backport PPA for LXDE.

The others changes only apply to Natty :

 lubuntu-artwork :
 New lubuntu-text theme for plymouth.
Update with elementary icon theme 2.6.

 lubuntu-default-settings:
Switch to Ubuntu 11 font. The font is now the same that Ubuntu.

 lubuntu-meta (the seed):
Added gecko-mediaplayer to desktop (to see video in chromium)
Added icedtea-plugin to desktop (for java support)
Added gvfs-backends to desktop (LP: #675212)
 Added audacious to desktop
 Added audacious-plugins to desktop
 Added file-roller to desktop
 Removed aqualung from desktop
 Removed cheese from desktop
 Removed xarchiver from desktop

Others new stuff are in progress ;)

 Julien Lavergne

Good work. But, pcmanfm doesn’t get updated in 10.04 because it has pcmanfm2.
What to do.
