[Lubuntu-desktop] Personal stuff.

2011-10-13 Thread Phill Whiteside
hi,

I've been off for a few days, hopefully after the weekend I will be better
in my self. I'll let you all know what decisions I've made about monday.

sorry for not being to hand at release date, but things escalated beyond by
own control. Thank-you to those who took up the scary bit of moving 11.10
from test to live on docs. Again, I've only had a little time to tidy up a
few things that were flagged to me to be checked.

Regards,

Phill.

Have you tried booting from LiveUSB?
If not, give it a try!

The screen turns off after showing the menu "try lubuntu, install lubuntu,
..."
This problems affects at least the ISO (don't know if the installed system
behave like this since i can't install it).
The same disk works since i'm using it in another machine with the livecd :)
(tested in three machines total)
The Ubuntu disk behaves exactly the same way. Driver problem?

I like the idea, but LSC is probably not the better place to implement
this. A separate program is probably the best, merging also the
functionalities from the pcmanfm one.

I started to work on something related to this idea. We will have time
to discuss this, let's rest on this release day before talking about
next version :)

you try to install with an alternate ISO ?

[Lubuntu-desktop] System won't boot in 11.10

2011-10-13 Thread Jean-Pierre Vidal Piesset

I'm really sorry for starting the bad news.
I have a NP305V4A-S01 and in 11.04 it worked... now in 11.10 i can't
even see the "Lubuntu" (plymouth); the screen just turns off but it
seems that everything is still running.
I tried the same CD in other machines and everything works perfect (i
have to type "sudo lxdm" though).
The "good" news is that after that i tried to install Ubuntu and didn't
worked neither...

Any idea where I can post this bug?

Hi,

great work!

... and by the way the server is not down, there are just tons of
hits. I think the lubuntu.net site should be moved to a cloud service
so we can cope with the demand every time a new version gets released.

Thanks so much!

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 11.10 released

2011-10-13 Thread Julien Lavergne
Lubuntu 11.10 is now available :

 * http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/11.10/release/

== What is Lubuntu ? ==

Lubuntu 11.10 is a brand new flavor of Ubuntu based on the Lightweight
X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE), as its default GUI. The goal is to
provide a very lightweight distribution, with all the advantages of the
Ubuntu world (repositories, support, etc.). Lubuntu is targeted at
"normal" PC and laptop users running on low-spec hardware. Such users
may not know how to use command line tools, and in most cases they just
don't have enough resources for all the bells and whistles of the
"full-featured" mainstream distributions.

With many LXDE components, Lubuntu also uses well-known applications,
such as Chromium, Openbox, Pidgin, to name a few. The Lubuntu project
wiki contains more information on the project and the applications used
available.

== Features ==

 * Based on the lightweight LXDE desktop environment.
 * Pcmanfm 0.9.9, a fast and lightweight files manager using gio/gvfs.
 * Lxdm, a lightweight GTK display manager.
 * Chromium, the open-source version of Google Chrome.
 * ... and, of course, based on Ubuntu 11.10.

See the complete list of applications on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Applications

== Improvements since Lubuntu 11.04 ==
 * ISOs are now build with Ubuntu official build system.
 * Alternate ISOs are available.
 * Many updates from LXDE (most components had official releases).
 * Build with recommended packages by default.
 * Use recommends instead of depends for most of components of
lubuntu-desktop meta-package.
 * Register correctly LXDE as a desktop environment by xdg tools.
 * Switch to xfce4-power-manager for power management.
 * Add a microblog client : pidgin-microblog.
 * New theme made by Rafael Laguna.

== Releases notes and known issues ==
The release notes, with a list of known problems are available on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReleaseNotes/OneiricOcelot

== Reporting bugs ==
You can find information on how to report bug on this wiki page :
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReportingBugs

== Thanks ==

I would like to thanks all people involved in the development of Lubuntu
during this past 6 months : LXDE developers, people helping on IRC,
testing ISOs, reporting bugs, making documentation and artwork ...
It was a pleasure to work with all of you.

I was wondering if something like this (
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=56282) could be implemented on
LSC.
The main goal of it is to be able to control from one place the default apps
of the system to open the files.

Something similar exists in pcmanfm, but it must be done extension by
extension. The proposal, is that it can be done in just one place.

What do you think?
